Buffalo Bill's real name was William Frederick Cody. Known as one of the most rugged frontiersmen of the American West, he later became a popular showman. Born in Scott County, Iowa, February 26, 1846. In 1860 he was one of the famous riders for the Pony Express. During the Civil War he served as a Union Scout. Finally, he became a buffalo hunter, supplying meat to the workmen, who were working on a railroad, west, across Kansas. His amazing skill as a marksman earned him his nickname of Buffalo Bill.
