Tank Abbott joined World Championship Wrestling in 1999. Initially, he appeared as a guest referee for a match between Sting and Rick Steiner. He was brought back in December of 1999 as a potential opponent for Goldberg, being presented as a "legitimate" fighter who had the ability to knock out any opponent with a single punch. This punch, known as "The Phantom Right," became his signature wrestling move.

At the Souled Out pay-per-view event in 2000, Abbott faced Jerry Flynn, a skilled black belt in taekwondo, and emerged victorious in their match at the pay-per-view event. Several months later, Tank was booked in a title match against WCW World Heavyweight Champion David Arquette. This was Arquette's only title defense prior to losing the belt to Jeff Jarrett.
Following this, Abbott started an alliance with Rick Steiner. During their alliance the duo lost several matches to Scott Steiner, Kevin Nash, and Goldberg. The loses lead to a split between Rick Steiner and Tank, culminating in a match that Steiner won.

Later, Tank became involved in segments with the boy band parody stable known as 3 Count, portraying their "biggest fan." Tank joined 3 Count in several 4 on 4 matches until the August 22nd episode of WCW Thunder, where 3 Count turned on him mid match and beat him down with baseball bats, leaving him to be be pinned by the Great Muta. This crushing betrayal and defeat was Tank's final televised match in WCW.
