Symbiotes and Parasites Custom Contest
There's just something creepy yet cool about two organisms synchronously coexisting as one--and the darker side of one organism consuming another from within! The goal of this contest is for artists to create two-for-one pieces of art that capture either that special essence of symbiosis or the sickened corruption of parasitism.

Some examples of acceptable submissions might include the Marvel Venom symbiotes, Jadzia Dax of Star Trek fame, MOTU's Moss-man and the Alien Xenomorphs.

Undead characters will not be permitted for entry, but entities such as Marvel's Sauron, Morbius the Living Vampire and Galactus that are driven to consume organic energies are allowed.

Characters that must cohabit the same space (B'nee and C'cll of Warstar) or simply prefer to (Rocket Raccoon and Groot) are acceptable. Pure partner characters such as Cloak and Dagger are off limits though as there must be some form of natural--or unnatural--arrangement. Finally, entities that consume living emotions or super-powers such as Parallax, Technovore and Onslaught are permitted.

Darkness and Witchblade would be great submissions but Angelus or Angel would not be permitted.

Would bloodscream be allowed? He is vampiric but not undead.

Any "Living" Vampire would be allowed, just focus on the parasitic angle in the piece.

With the cohabitation thing, would a character that draws on the power sentient, intelligent, elemental creatures (no, not Pokemon) to enhance their own powers (and vice versa) qualify? It's by definition a symbiosis but technically a pure partnership (as you stated) is also a symbiosis by definition (mutually beneficial arrangement). If it helps, both the character and the creatures are able to learn parasitic (ie life drain, mana drain, stat drain, etc) attacks (though, in canon, the character is not required to learn these skills, and the creatures have their own unique abilities and thus only some are able to use parasitism; if it tips the scales I can make those specific creatures).

Any of the above are fine *provided* that there is some form of bond existing between the character and the entity he/she draws upon, along with the manifestation of that bond.

Thank you yes, there is a very visible bond and manifestation, it's almost as important as the plot of the games (especially in the most recent one where a lot of the correlation was explained in greater detail)

UniPower (Captain Universe), Phoenix Force (Jean Grey) and Paralax (Green Lantern) are allowed?

Jean Grey Phoenix or the Phoenix Force itself would be allowed as would Parallax, but not a canonical Earth-616 Captain Universe/the Uni-power. The latter is truly an aspect of the Marvel cosmic being Eternity and thus technically present in all living entities.

A corrupted What If? Captain Universe/Uni-power would be allowed, such as a version possessed by Shuma-Gorath or one of the Many-Angled-Ones from the Cancerverse.

How about Man-Bat sir?

If you can cite a particular issue, arc or continuity--I.e. Batman Beyond, in which Man-Bat was created by splicing human DNA with that of the vampire bat--where parasitism is a key factor, that would be allowed.

Not precisely, but an original character that must consume host bodies would be allowed. Again, there should be an outward manifestation of the consumption, I.e. the parasitic entity is depicted attaching itself to the host or "taking over" somehow.

Assuming a character fits the definitions, Manga/Anime is allowed but keep it somewhat "family friendly."

Dracula and other Vampires would generally not be allowed as most such characters are considered Undead in their source universes.

**edit** Concerning the question about re-doing a Venom, customs not timed for submission to the contest will not be allowed.

It's Shinishi Izumi from Parasyte.
And vampires like the Inheritors (spider verse) are allowed?

Are characters such as spawn or haunt acceptable?

@Rebel Studios, I should have clarified that along with other life-feeding entities, certain demons would be acceptable. Pure shapeshifting/form-changing or mind possession won't be enough to pass muster though.

Surely some of the Hellspawn or Malebolgia's other legions in Image canon were driven to feed off other beings--if not, an in-universe original creation that does would be acceptable *provided* the creation features multiple personas.

Also, can you describe or link the character Haunt to me?

I'm a little confused of how Rocket and Groot can be in this contest. They are simply partners just like Cloak and Dagger. They do not need each other to survive so wouldn't that basically just be the same thing.

While it's not truly a direct symbiosis, raccoons (and other small mammals) do have mutually beneficial natural relationships with trees. Creatures with such an arrangement are considered fair game.

Cloak wouldn't eat insects off Dagger to keep them from pestering her--unless they're into some REALLY bizarre fetishes!

Doesn't Cloak actually need Dagger's light to survive? Wouldn't that be a symbiotic relationship vs a simple partnership?

Wow, I picked a really bad example for a "pure partner" character relationship!

After reading the Marvel Earth-616 entry on Cloak, he would be allowed as a primary submission but Dagger would not qualify--her light generation only temporarily suppresses his cravings to consume Life Force.

Here's a concept-- "What If?: Cloak had not met Dagger."

Cloak and Dagger are both the same 'species'. Symbiotic means 2 different species that live together by choice or by need, and both receive benefit from the relationship. In the case of parasite and host, the parasite would have to provide some sort of benefit. A ramora and a shark, for instance. The ramora clean's the shark's skin of bacteria and other parasites...and also gets to go nuts on the crumbs left behind by the shark. My child has attached herself to me, too, and she gives me super lots of laughs and emotional joy, and she gets to eat all the food and live a nice life in a house full of toys with a mom who, if they don't MAKE a toy, will make that toy for her. But, we're the same species...so...doesn't count.

Original creations optional?
avatar
Dr.Zom -
Saturday, January 10, 2015
Original creations are allowed, but undeveloped forms such as larvae or disembodied phantoms/wraiths/demons must include a host subject or "victim."

Host characters need to include a significant visible manifestation of the inhabitance or "possession."

Not Acceptable:
Red demon eyes
Plain clothes character with Venom head
Pregnant Ripley

Perfect:
A cloak full of demons
Venom symbiote ensnaring another character
a breaching chest-burster

Any mostly developed submission would be fine.
