Newbies Custom Contest
A whole new universe, not tied to any comic book, graphic novel, book, tv show, or movie.

For this contest, you will create your own original character and a backstory. What happened to them that caused them to become a superhero (or a villain)? What are their powers? What are their weaknesses? I look forward to seeing all of the amazing characters you Realmers make (if this contest gets approved)!

Your characters could also fit into the categories such as bounty hunter, hero, vigilante etc...

WARNING: Ripoffs of existing characters will result in disqualification. I.e. Amazing Woman (Wonder Woman) or Captain Patriot (Captain America)

Good luck to you all!

Please remember to follow the Contest Rules and to Vote Fairly.

I think it is really intriguing that so many of the 22 entries have a character name and/or ability and/or backstory that involves color in a significant way. What is it about the hues we see that makes us want to integrate them into these characters we've created? Is it a response to "the dress" controversy?

Maybe. Is it just me or is Nive's Orange and gold suit really cool

Odd that you'd say that, when it is clearly black and blue...

There is a formula for coming up with catchy names for comic book characters. implementation of an adjective into the name for instance. creators pick up on it even if only subconsciously. sort of accidental inspiration. its surprising the amount of psychology that goes into what we think is so simple.

Still more unoriginals... Midnight Ninja claims to be based on a series (might have been a series made by the customizer though, it's a little vague), Rumble implies it's based on another character (might be just a comparison of the characters), and Inuyasha is definitely not original :c

The first two you mentioned are in fact original characters. The last one isn't though.

So can I put in something other then a super hero, like a custom clone trooper or something?
avatar
mr.fenrir -
Monday, March 9, 2015
it doesn't have to be a super hero but it can't be linked to an existing universe like star wars though. the character and world from which it hails must be completely original.

Would it be okay to submit by Dungeons and Dragons character? Or is this strictly for super-hero type characters?

This contest is only for 100% original characters in 100% original universes. So no. Sorry

Got a quick question; I know we can't submit a figure already made, but we can submit a character we've made as long as it's different, so what I wanna know is: if I redo a figure I made using the same figure but I repaint all of it and resculpt the head, as well as add extra sculpting on, does that count as a new figure? Pretty much all that will be the same is the base figure, so it's technically going to be a custom using a base figure that is also a custom, but the first time around it turned out horrible =P

Of course you can do that! I have a bunch of captain America customs on my page. As long as it's another figure it can be the same character. Can't wait to see it!

Well, thats why I'm asking; it's the same figure, just taken apart and fixed up. But all the work will be new, so I'm guessing that's okay as long as it's visibly different from the first attempt? The changes I'm making are resculpting the face and hair, stripping the paint, repainting, and removing the cloth coat and sculpting a coat. Possibly also adding accessories or maybe just altering the ones he has. I've been wanting to redo this one for a while because it was my first custom and therefore has a very beginner look to it. I also didn't have a dremel back then, soooooooo a LOT of the detail didn't get any touching up. And also I used mostly gloss paints because (1) I didn't know any better (2) I didn't know where to find better paints. So, long story short, all the work for the figure will be redone better, but it's still using the exact same base and method (albeit with more experience and tools this time).

If it is totally different and its a new figure, not just a couple fixed parts then it will be ok.

Saturday, February 21, 2015
Yeah, so far the face and hair are both entirely resculpted, most of the coat has been sculpted rather than cloth, and the pants have extra sculpting on them. The paint will be 100% new over all the figure. I guess it'd be the equivalent of taking a figure and fixing what the makers screwed up =P

Hello I'm thinking of submitting a custom for this (first contest for me woo!) but the figure I'm planning on making is of a character I've already submitted a custom for, so my question is can I enter this contest by submitting a brand new custom of a character I've already made a custom for?

As long as it isn't the same figure as before you can submit it. People often make multiple versions of a single character. As long as it abides by the contest rules and you make a new version you're good.

I have a character with the same name as another "public domain" character, but he got said name in-story by reading about said character, but he is not the same character. So by "Ripoff," do we mean only existing costumes/characters, or can they have the same name as someone else while they look completely different and are NOT based on any character? Also, if our character has the ability to transform into a beast, (such as a werewolf,) are Transformers figures acceptable as base figures?

This is one I'm pretty sure I can answer; think more about the character than the name. If the character is yours, and doesn't have too many similarities to the character of the same name. IE, Beast Boy who can transform into any animal won't work, but Beast Boy who is a werewolf would work. If the similarities are too close, play with the name a bit (use a nickname or codename, or real name). For example, my first custom was of an OC with the same name as my username. Since we can't reveal the creator til the contest is over, I had to use his infamous codename. So, long story short, as long as the character is yours and isn't too close to the character that shares his/her name, youll be fine. And as for base figures, this is Figurerealm, aside from very specific contests (ie the contest where customizers had to use dollar store materials), all base figures are always allowed (assuming they are worksafe, or at least the finished product is worksafe).

If I didn't get this spot on, the contest manager will correct me =P

Well, there's one listed under Ronin Warriors for the series, but I don't know if that's just where they put it due to the nature of the character or if it's character from the series (not familiar with the series)

I checked it out online. There's no character named jubal relating to ronin warriors. If you want to do some research too that might help. Maybe I missed something

The only thing I found may not have been canon, it was just using the name with the series, but given the nature of the names, it might be fanfiction or a completely different thing. I guess it just seems to fit with the series title. Personally I don't mind if it sticks around, I just don't want the contest to be nothing but unoriginals. Up to you.

Only characters that fit into a comic?
Horror story/ Creepypaste style characters are allowed?
avatar
Danyx Eleven -
Tuesday, February 3, 2015
I'd assume any original character would work, but of course it would have to be your own original character (so you would have to be the author of said horror story/creepypasta). I think the wording just comes from the fact most customizers here usually make comic-style superheroes from Marvel, DC, Dark Horse, etc. As long as its your character, you'll be fine in this contest =P

The original character can only exist in a universe created by you. It could be a comic book, movie, tv show, etc, but it has to come 100% from you. Good luck!

What if the "existing universe"...
Was created by the customizer?
avatar
Ironmanfan -
Sunday, February 1, 2015
Yes. It has to be from the customizer's mind. If it is in a world another customizer made then you would be disqualified.

Due to past entries, I will state again, the character can't exist in any existing fictional universe. I am still trying to delete the entries so make sure to make sure your character doesn't live in any already made continuum.

I noticed them because I was flipping through the submissions since my last one (for the Cyborg contest) and noticed a few for contests (pics hidden) but from the characters I wasn't sure what contest they fit into right now, so out of curiosity I checked and it was this one =/
