Non Marvel DC Custom Contest
Contrary to popular thought, there ARE other comic universes out there other than the Big 2. There are a ton actually. Here are but a few I might suggest. The original Image books (Youngblood, Wild CATS, Savage Dragon, Wetworks, Cyberforce, etc.) Plus all of the really cool series that followed. Independents such as Powers, Invincible, America's Got Powers, Astro City, Project Superpowers, Femforce, etc. Not to mention self published titles, of which there are many!

It's so great seeing the talent that is on display here but it gets a bit repetitive when it's the same characters rehashed ad nauseum. Shake it up a little. Step outside your comfort zone! Shine your amazing talents on other fantastic comic characters! The gauntlet has been thrown. :-)

Go here for some great inspiration! >> http://www.indyplanet.us/front-2/

How about a character like "Kick-Ass"? Or any related characters ? They exist in a world outside of the Marvel U, it's a completely separate universe. It is creator owned by Mark Millar and not part of the Marvel Universe, even though it was published by Icon, a Marvel imprint. The Icon imprint was created so that the writers and artists still owned their creations.

Which is similar to "Powers" owned by Brian Michael Bendis, and "Kabuki" owned by David Mack. They were formerly at Image but later moved their creator owned properties to Icon.

My point is that Marvel doesn't actually own the characters under Icon. Hope to hear your answer about this. Thanks!

Yes. Any character from Kick-Ass would be fine. Powers or Kabuki would be as well.

I want to ask the same question that ZombieKev did below, do Wildcats count even if they are now owned by DC? They were actually Image comics characters before.

Unfortunately, since DC is now transitioning Wildcats into regular DCU continuity they no longer can be considered indy characters.

Ok, I was speaking generally about the famous 90s independent characters. So Prime is not allowed. I think that then his picture should be removed from the contest image not to confuse the customizers.

As another question, does a character from a independent publisher, but for example in a theme created by Marvel would be allowed? for example, custom Spawn as a member of the Fantastic Four would be allowed?

No Marvel. No DC. No affiliation with Marvel or DC. Sorry.

Can foreign and parody heroes be included,I know this contest is non DC/MARVEL related characters...but what about the Italian Spider-man or the Turkish Batman,or what that be cheating ?

I'm afraid so. No Marvel. No DC. ANY other comic company is fair game.

I have a doubt, nearly all independent comic universes are now owned by Marvel or DC, the Prime superhero which appears as a sample is now owned by Marvel. Does that exclude him? are only allowed characters that were invented before being bought by Marvel/DC?

And another question, would for example a character from Ben 10 (which is basically not comic but it has had some I think) allowed?

I have to disagree. There are MANY comic universes that are not owned or affiliated with Marvel or DC. Dynamite, Heroic Publishing, Image, Gallant Comics, to name but a few. If you go to indyplanet.com you will find a plethora of independent publishers that offer some very cool characters, super-teams, etc. The indy comic market is strong...you just have to seek them out sometimes. That was the whole point of this contest. To broaden your horizons and to take a step outside of the DC/Marvel bubble. There are many options available to you if you take the time to look. Thanks for your interest!

Are characters that were originally owned by other companies, but now owned by Marvel or DC allowed. Ex: the Charlton characters

No. If they are currently owned by Marvel or DC, they do not count.

Does this mean that the WildCATS don't count? They're owned by DC now.

Since they are doing a Turtles contest 2 weeks before this one, are you still allowing TMNT into this contest as well?

Great question! What do you guys think? I wouldn't want to take any entries from the Turtles contest, so maybe they should be excluded? Some feedback would be appreciated!

Tmnt customs should be allowed just in case some guys could'nt finish their customs on time for the tmnt contest.

Vic has a good point! But there is still a lot of time for making that contest. And that TMNT contest is already shaping up to be a great battle royal! It would be great to encourage all TMNT builders to make that deadline so that the battle would be more epic. And I felt the essence of this contest was more to give a chance for heroes of forgotten or not too big a franchise to shine. TMNT is a big franchise that rivals both DC and Marvel. In the end, the decision is up to you and will be respected.

I think, to be fair to the Turtles contest and those that are entering it, we should exclude TMNT from this contest. Sorry guys. I agree with Rudotrese. This contest is intended to be about forgotten heroes from comic companies other than Marvel or DC. Hope you understand. And again, thanks so much for the interest in my contest idea!
