Sidekicks II Custom Contest
When things get hairy, it's good to know that you've got a dependable partner watching your back! The goal of this challenge is to craft a custom of any "sidekick" character. Sidekicks are defined as close companions who are generally subordinate to the individual that they accompany. The character's relationship to the hero/master could be that of an apprentice/trainee, companion, employee, fan/groupie, or even a trained pet.

- If the character you want to make has grown out of the sidekick role, then turn back the hands of time so that your custom reflects how they looked when they were still playing second fiddle to the main attraction. For example, it would be more appropriate to depict Richard Grayson as Robin than Nightwing for this particular challenge.

- Don't forget to tell us, in your entry description, who your character is a sidekick to and how/why they fill that role in the relationship. This is particularly important for more obscure characters that the voters might not be familiar with.

- Here are some examples of sidekicks to get you thinking: Amanda (Jigsaw Killer), Barney Fife (Andy Griffith), Bird Companions (various Silverhawks characters), Brain and Penny (Inspector Gadget), Bucky (Captain America), Buzzbomb (Dr. Badvibes), Chewbacca (Han Solo), Dr. Watson (Sherlock Holmes), Ed McMahon (Johnny Carson), Enkidu (Gilgamesh), Fallout Boy (Radioactive Man), Gabrielle (Xena), Harley Quinn (Joker), Hermione Granger and Ron Weasley (Harry Potter), Jedi Padawans (various Jedi), Jimmy Olson (Superman), Jubilee (Wolverine), Jughead (Archie), Kato (Green Hornet), Lockheed (Kitty Pryde), Mini Me (Dr. Evil), Rick Jones (Hulk), Robin (Batman), Samwise Gamgee (Frodo Baggins), Sancho Panza (Don Quixote), Short Round (Indiana Jones), Speedy (Green Arrow), Tails (Sonic the Hedgehog), Timber (Snake-Eyes), Tonto (Lone Ranger), Transformers Cassettes (Blaster/Soundwave), Woodstock (Snoopy), Wong (Dr. Strange), and Zero (Jack Skellington).

- There are no limitations on size/scale and you may use whatever base bodies, parts, materials, tools, and techniques you like to create your toy sidekicks. If you're still stumped for ideas, or would just like to see some examples, check out the results from the first incarnation of this contest: Sidekicks Custom Contest

Hey bro, how about Shredder for example... is he Krang's sidekick?
Or Archangel, War, Famine, Pestilence to their master Apocalypse... Do they qualify?
Is IronFist, Luke Cage's sidekick?

In the original 80s TMNT animation, you could probably make a case that Shredder is Krang's sidekick, although they don't particularly like or trust each other. Shredder is dependent on Krang for resources/technology, and does (grudgingly) take orders from him. However, Shredder is usually depicted as the main villain in the TMNT universe, so it's kind of subjective.

I think Apocalypse's Four Horsemen could work as well, because they are subordinate companions/agents to him.

I would say that Iron Fist and Luke Cage have more of an equal partner relationship than a sidekick one.

Would Mon-El as a Superman sidekick work, because technically he is in the Superman Family series.

I don't think so, although I'd never heard of him till now, so take what I say with a grain of salt. I just consulted the DC Comics Database and Wikipedia, and neither lists him as a sidekick.

How many submissions are we allowed?

You can submit up to a maximum of three separate entries for any Figure Realm custom contest. If you deem it necessary, you can also submit multiple figures together, but a team collectively still counts as a single entry (say, for example, you wanted to submit Space Ghost's sidekicks Jan, Jace, and Blip the Monkey as a group.)

I don't feel that Deadpool qualifies as a sidekick for Wolverine. Just because two characters spend a lot of time together, it doesn't necessarily mean that it's a sidekick relationship. I just did a search for "Deadpool sidekick" on Google, and all I came up with were sidekicks for Deadpool himself, like Bob, Agent of Hydra - no mention of Deadpool as a sidekick to another character.

All that said, part of the general contest rules are that you should state in your contest description how your entry fits into the contest theme--if you feel strongly enough that Deadpool is indeed Wolverine's sidekick, and can back it up in your description with a solid argument or examples, then that's your call to make.

If you're referring to X-Force, I would say probably not. While there are exceptions, super hero team members are generally regarded as equals, even when one of them is the leader. For example, in an Avengers lineup, most people wouldn't consider Thor, Iron Man, Hawkeye, and Wasp to be Captain America's sidekicks, even if he's the commander of the team.

How about side kicks who evolved like Arsenal/Red Arrow, or Red Robin, Nightwing?

As I indicated in the rules, people who were sidekicks in the past are okay, but your entry should reflect how they looked when they were still sidekicks, not how they look now that they're independent. Using your examples, Arsenal/Red Arrow should be made as Speedy, and Nightwing/Red Robin should be depicted as Robin I and III.

When he was a Herald, Silver Surfer was a subordinate companion/employee of Galactus, and so, yes, in that context, he would qualify as a sidekick. Similarly, Galactus' other Heralds would also fit the bill.

Yes, you can do a villain. The only thing that matters is that the character is a sidekick--whether they're good, evil, or neutral in temperment is unimportant.

I'm curious could you take a character ( I'm just going to say Batman for example) and create them as if they were the sidekick thanks.

Sorry, no, you may not take a character that generally isn't classified as a sidekick and reinterpret them as such. Whomever you choose to make has to already be a sidekick or have been a sidekick in the past.
