Cartoons Custom Contest
Cartoons

It's time to show some love for animation, this contest is all about cartoons! Whether it be from an animated feature films, online videos, commercials, or the standard half hour shows we all know and love, all original cartoon characters are fair game for this contest. You can go the silly route with something like Looney Toons, Tom & Jerry, Freakazoid, or Animaniacs. The more serious route with something from Exo-Squad, Thundercats, Transformers or Gargoyles. Or anything in between like Foamy the Squirrel, Strongbad, the Trix rabbit, or even the Scrubbing Bubbles. You can draw on any corner of the cartoon kingdom.

-DC and Marvel characters are not allowed for this contest. While things like X-Men and Batman are both cartoons, they are at their heart comic book creations. The exception to this rule are characters that originated in a cartoon format. So a character like Spyke from X-Men Evolution would be allowed, even though the X-Men in general are not.

-Characters don't have to be part of an actual cartoon to qualify, they just need to be a cartoon character. So characters from live action movies like Roger Rabbit, or from commercials like Trix Rabbit are both legal entries even though they don't come from cartoon programming.

-Upon consideration claymation characters are allowed.

-As always there are no size restrictions for this contest. You may use any sort of materials, parts, tools or techniques that you wish. Whatever gets the job done.

Please remember to follow the Contest Rules and to Vote Fairly.

I see marvel & dc are out (except if the character originated in a cartoon), what about originally indy comic characters from shows like the tick or ninja turtles? would they have to be characters that originated in the animated version too or is any non marvel or dc character thats appeared in a cartoon ok?

The restriction only applies to Marvel & DC characters now. Tick & TMNT are both okay now.

Also, one more question. Since Sonic X was a show based off of a video game series it wouldn't be aloud, but would characters who were exclusive to the show be aloud?
avatar
Green Skin -
Saturday, January 12, 2013
With the rules revisions Sonic X characters are allowed.

Now you say Transformers are aloud, but didn't the toyline come first? Wasn't the awesome tv show based off of toys? Also I think its awesome that you mentioned Strongbad in the rules. I doubt anyone even knows who he is!

Yeah I love me some Strongbad! I'm glad at least one person here knows who he is.

We made a revision to the rules, now the only thing banned are Marvel & DC comic characters.

I'm sorry... I don't understand when you said Dragonball characters are allowed. Does that mean Dragonball characters only (like Emperor Pilaf, Arale etc.), or does it mean Dragonball Z as well?

Saturday, January 12, 2013
Yes Dragonball Z characters are allowed. When I say Dragonball characters I'm talking about the characters from all the various Dragonball shows.

Wouldn't Harley Quinn be a legal entry? She did first appear in the animated series. Also does the character have to look "cartoony"? What I mean is could you do the character in a more realistic style?
avatar
Green Skin -
Saturday, January 12, 2013
Yes she would, she was first introduced in Batman:TAS. No the entries are not required to look cartoony, but you do have to use the cartoon costume.

Does it mean we cannot over accessorized or add more accessories to the Cartoon character's costume aside from making more realistic Sir?

As long as there is an actual cartoon then you can use it for an entry. If it's just rumors and a few pics, then no.

Is that an official Dragonball series? I thought GT was the last one. Either way the rules have been revised, Dragon Ball cartoons are now allowed.

**** The rules are being revised. Now instead of all comic inspired characters being banned from the contest, it's just Marvel & DC characters that are banned.

At the moment that is correct. I posted a poll about dropping the restriction to the contest, if people vote to drop the restriction then Batman characters would be allowed.

What about Ninja Turtles? they were a comic first but best known as a Cartoon.

Green Skin -
Thursday, January 10, 2013
For TMNT we'll stick with not allowed unless it's a character that debuted on one of the cartoons. Since we just had a TMNT contest I'd rather not make an exception for them. Keeps it simpler that way and doesn't open the flood gates for more shows that are best known for the cartoon but don't technically qualify.
