I know Mortal Engines didn’t take the world by storm but I LOVE the film and the books so much and Hester Shaw is one of my all-time favourite characters. I expected merchandise like crazy for this film considering it's a Peter Jackson production but there wasn't anything beyond a Pop Vinyl figure. So I made one myself. All the parts of this figure are no-brand items except for the pants which come from the Mad Max: Fury Road Furiosa figure. The rest was completely customized. Every part was bought separately – Body, boots, pants, coat, buttons, knife. I had to hand sew the grey sweater. The scarf is also handmade. I had to scar her face with a scalpel as well as paint and tone down the face a different shade as the head I bought, though the only one remotely resembling Hera Hilmar, was made up like a blow up doll. Had to replace the hair which I thought would be as easy as taking one wig off and putting the other one off but they were made by two completely different companies so I had to literally scalp the first wig and then add some filler so the new wig fit the same. I love this figure and this is for my personal collection only as though it displays well, it doesn’t take long to see the strings so-to-speak. Maybe one day I’ll fine tune it but for now I’m happy. ![]() |
