On January 22, 2008, Heath Ledger was pronounced dead. America was in tears. On of Hollywood's brightest young stars was gone for good. But there was one question on the lips of Batman fans everywhere: who's going to be the Joker now? Well, if you ask me, Chris Nolan has done enough with the Dark Knight. Batman Begins was great and This summer's The Dark Knight was by far the best batman flick ever, but part of what makes those films so special is that the style is ever changing. Tim Burton gave Gotham City a Dark and Mysterious look, Joel Schumacher gave it a very neon and flamboyant look, and Chris Nolan made it very real and gritty looking. My point is that, just like the comic books that inspire the films, a different artist almost always portrays the story. Bob Kane wasn't the only Batman artist, so why should Nolan be the only one to do the franchise. After all, Burton and Schumacher only did two films, themselves. And in a perfect world, this new franchise would cast brilliant thespian Tim Roth as The Joker. He proved to us in Pulp Fiction that he can play a raving lunatic, and he is already involved in the comic book world with his role in The Incredible Hulk. I hope you all like my custom, and if any of you are in show business, please take what I said about a new Batman franchise to heart.
