Another early custom from back in the day. As a child, I had always wanted a Darth Vader with a good cape and not that goofy plastic piece that the arms stick through. Vader became my second vintage Star Wars custom. I cut out a paper pattern for the inner robe and then cut the cloth. A little stitching in the back made it fit. I made the Cape using a neck snap from a 1989 Batman figure and sewed a cut out cloth cape to it. I used a twist tie from a loaf of bread for the belt. I made new control boxes and belt buckle from styrene plastic and glued them to the twist tie. If you look on the back side of the figure, you can see where I twisted the tie ends together to secure my new built to Vader's waste. I used styrene plastic to make the armored cod piece which was absent from the original figure. I carefully repainted the chest control box. On the control box, as well as the ones on the belt, I painted them white and then applied neon colors for a glowing effect. The lightsaber was a red plastic mini-sword from Red Lobster that I had in my desk for years. I merely cut it down to size and inserted it into the saber handle molded into the figures hand. He looked great with my old figures I used to have!
