So here is my custom figure of Batgirl, played by Alicia Silverstone in 1997's Batman & Robin, a film that winterized the hearts of many fans! Not a good film, but the character designs were pretty neat. The figures by Hasbro seemed to be way off from what is seen in the film, based on very early concept designs I guess. The figures did come out nearly a year before the film. Anyhow, to make Batgirl, I first decided to use the head of Poison Ivy, who looked NOTHING like Uma Thurman. I crafted a mask for her and painted the head, being sure to add the mole left of her mouth. The body was a lot more complicated, as I hated the large Amazonian bodies in exaggerated poses that the females in this line were given. I cut off the Batgirl figures legs and shortened them a bit and dremeled away the incorrect bat emblems on her thighs. I used the torso of Catwoman from Batman Returns which was smaller and had the corset design that Batgirl needed. I cut down the large thighs to match the hips of the Catwoman torso. I positioned the legs as best I could with glue, then filled in the entire hip/groin area with epoxy. Since the figure parts were vastly different, there could be no leg posability. After the epoxy hardened, I sanded the area down, careful not to mess up the corset detail. I cut the arms off at the elbows and repositioned them, as the original position was weird and silly looking. I also wanted the fins on her gloves to be at an angle and not sticking straight out on each side. I used sculpy to bring her gloves up closer to the shoulders. I also sculpted new boot details on the thighs. The torso was hard to get right as I had to sculpt her breast detail, the bat emblem on her chest, and her new utility belt. The buckle was cut from the base figure and glued on. I cut down the cape, making the bat-wing tips a lot shorter, then glued on the head. I painted her the same dark blackish-blue color as Batman and Robin. Please check out my other vintage Batman movie custom figures! Please wait... |
