The Gotham City Police Headquarters Building diorama is one part of the larger overall LEGENDS OF GOTHAM CITY Custom Toys Exhibit that I began creating more than 25 years ago. As a former collector of 8 inch tall (1:9 scale) MEGO action Figures and playsets, I began creating my own customized versions of the main characters of Gotham City back in the mid 1990’s. After sharing my work online with the MEGO / Batman fan community for several years, I quickly decided to expand my custom displays into something larger and far more ambitious. I soon created my first diorama as a way to pose my custom characters in an authentic Gotham City scene. Eventually, one diorama became SEVERAL! GOTHAM CITY POLICE HEADQUARTERS BUILDING Diorama
Representing only the top two floors, and a section of the rooftop and soffit of the GCPD HEADQUARTERS BUILDING, this diorama is a very large, heavy, and complex construction. Measuring over 40” wide, 32” tall, and 26” deep, the building is backed by a 5-1/2 foot wide stretched vinyl Gotham City night backdrop.
The solid building construction consists of an interior wooden frame, and an outer skin of 1/8” thick plywood. It is laminated with sheets of dollhouse brick pattern and detailed with large scale dollhouse windows with laser cut, frosted yellow plexiglass panes glued inside.
The BATSIGNAL searchlight prop of the roof is fully functional and it was researched, designed and scratch-built over one full year.
GOTHAM CITY POLICE HEADQUARTERS BUILDING Diorama
The custom scratch-built BATSIGNAL searchlight Prop is fully- functional with a built-in rechargeable battery pack good for 15 hours of continuous operation between chargings! It actually projects an ENORMOUS bat insignia logo onto any flat surface.

This massive GCPD HEADQUARTERS BUILDING diorama was constructed to showcase ONE custom 8 inch action figure: POLICE COMMISSIONER JAMES GORDON.
