So... under quarantine, finding excuses to explore things I’ve wanted to experiment with I tried my hand at “No Sew” costume making. So many awesome kits out there to make your own characters and SO MUCH MONEY!!! So I sat down, caved to template making, made one... terrible, made 2... possibly worse... made THREE... wouldn’t you know it... a charm!! Experimented with fabric A... dud... fabric B... ditto... fabric C... Excelsior!!! So the base of this costume is made from those little book covers you see at Walmart clearanced out every fall after the kids go back to school. Tons of stretch and just about every color. Sky blue was the one for me... I’ve wanted to do a Reeve, or a Curt Swan that I could be really proud of. Something very unique. Anyway... template, fabric, no-sew hemming tape and a bit of superglue and I found myself HERE. The belt comes from the bizarro figure just tucked back in its slot over the fabric. If I could make it stay I’d keep it but it looks like for now I need to be in the belt business too. Iron on transfer comes from extras of some capes I have been making just colored in with a sharpie. Boots and trunks are fabric as well. A special trick I decided to try was making the feet appear to be of the same fabric. So with the feet detached I coated them in superglue and stretched the fabric over them until dried (doesn’t take long) and trimmed the excess away. Cape is super glued into shoulders as well as the seam on his back. No lie when I finished this I took off running around the house to show eeeerbody.... very proud of how this turned out. I’ll be keeping this template... Watch for more experimentation on this subject. ![]() |
