AP-5, like C3-PO, was a protocol droid for the Republic. Once the Empire took control he was downgraded to an inventory droid. While on a mission for the Rebels, Chopper encountered AP-5 and convinced he could leave the Empire. AP would go on to assist the Ghost Crew in many of their adventures with his uniquely grumpy pessimism.

Boy, I started this guy a long time ago but not in a galaxy far, far away!--but a house relatively far away, actually. It was son long ago Star Wars: Rebels was actually still on the air. When AP-5 debuted, I was immediately taken by his unique personality. And since he looked a lot like everyone's favorite golden droid (or second favorite, I don't know, maybe you prefer Dot Matrix). But then we moved, and he got packed up and sort of downgraded back to the work in progress box as unpacking and other customs eventually took me away from him. Kind of ironic when you think about his actual backstory.

And there he sat in a sandwich baggy amongst all the other ideas and false starts until I came across an eBay seller. Back when I began AP I had purchased an RA-7 (aka Death Star Droid) head because it was very similar and I believed I could modify it enough to get a proper representation. But earlier this year I came across a seller who had 3D printed heads and amongst them was one for AP-5 which made my life so much easier.

So he's a 3D printed head and a modified 3PO body. I'm not even sure which one, it was so long ago, but they're all basically the same anyway. I just re-sculpted the forearms and the chest. And a custom new metallic blue paint job, and viola.

Out of all the Rebels crew, I thought he'd be least likely to get a proper figure, so I'm glad to be able to include him with my Crew.
