So, since I wanted to try and round out some more of Superboy's classic adversaries from the Silver Age, I decided to do this character from issue #119 (March, 1965), Dr. Diablo. Dr. Diablo was a criminal scientist employed by the Anti-Superboy Gang who built an android duplicate of Superboy that siphoned off half of the Boy of Steel's powers before being befriended by the teenage hero and the Kents, and subsequently destroyed by Diablo for turning against him.
First, I removed the head and hands from the DC Direct Shazam Series 1 Dr. Sivana body, and commenced a full repaint on the neck and hands with Army Paints Warpaints Kobold Flesh, followed by two generous coats of Flat Clear. While the Flat Clear was drying, I started work on the head. For the head, and because Dr. Diablo had such a distinctive look, I used an extra head from the Mattel Movie Masters Dark Knight Rises Series Ra's al Ghul. The head was painted with the Army Paints warpaints Kobold Flesh for the skin and Testors Model Masters Burnt Sienna for the hair, goatee, and eyebrows, followed by two generous coats of Flat Clear. While the Flat Clear on the head was drying, I set about modding the ball joint attached to the neck into a cylindrical post with my Dremel. With all coats of paint and Flat Clear now dry, I jammed a small glob of Milliput into the head cavity, and then stuck the cylindrical post into it to create a cylindrical notch to accommodate the post, and then removed the post so that the Milliput could dry. Once the Milliput had dried, I re-inserted the post into the cavity and glued it in place with a small dab of Testors modeling cement, and TA-DA...Dr. Diablo, Silver Age foe of Superboy!!!
Please let me know what you guys think of him, and as always, comments are appreciated.
