For this guy I started with a Titan Hero Series Spider-Man figure and started hacking away at his limbs and resculpting them in the position that I wanted. Once I had the pose down I started sculpting all the details from his in-game suit. I took a bunch of screenshots in the game to get every detail I realistically could get out of the suit from the game. Some things were out of my artistic grasp, such as the varying textures and patterns of the suit, but I got all the little seams and panels I could along with his "armored" sections like the feet and the forearms. Once all the sculpting was done I primed it and sprayed it satin black. All the "armored" segments were then painted in either gloss black or gloss red. The base was probably my most intricate so far. It consists of a clear round cover sitting on a wooden base that was covered in cotton and painted to look like an explosion. I then ran LEDs inside the clear plastic lid so it would shine through the cotton and make the base look as much like an explosion as possible. I mounted a metal rod underneath that connects to a keyed hole I made under his left foot to hold him up and give him the illusion of floating above the smoke cloud. I also cut a hole from the plastic piece so that I could reach the power switch for the LEDs. I then thought it looks too empty so I sculpted some other pieces to add to the base to cover some space. The sword piece was pretty easy to sculpt, it was just harder to find reference images so it may not be as accurate as I'd hoped. As for the gauntlet, I had afew more references. I repurposed a piece of fodder I had to function as the power glove and added some clear acrylic pieces so that LEDs would shine through and make it look lit up like the game. I also added a web line in the back just to fill some space and since it was on the back of the game cover I figured it would work well. That's pretty much it. It's weird to describe all the work I did in such little time when it took me about a month of on-off work to get this one done. I'm very satisfied with the result and it makes me happy knowing my skills are getting better as an artist. Please wait... |
