I wanted to give TBL Vampirella a less revealing outfit (vanilla outfit was WAY too skimpy), as well as a comic accurate head. Please note I designed this figure before the Loosecollector more comic-looking version was announced, so this was the ONLY 6" Vampirella figure at the time. I had done the same thing for TB League Purgatori (my first custom), so I knew more or less what to do but the hardest part on Vampirella was the eyes, this was the first time I had to paint pupils and iris and not just sclera (white of the eyes) like on Purgatori and Evil Ernie. I must have gone through several re-paints and a few heads. I had all but given up on Vampi when one day I decided I wanted to give her a head with vampire fangs and red eyes, like in the 90s Vengeance of Vampirella comic. I painted her head in a couple days (no pupils) and it motivated me to keep trying. Finally I came to the conclusion to buy another Mary Jane head (the eyes were thinned and sanded off) and to just change the color of the iris, paint around the pupils and sclera, and it worked! That was just a quick story about the pains I went through to make this figure. Let's get to the recipe. Normal version: Base body is the TBL Vampirella. Head and hair is both Marvel Legends Mary Jane head that came with Retro Gwen Stacy. Hands are from ML Spider-Man/MJ Toysrus 2-pack. Outfit is made of electric tape, still utilizing some of the vanilla outfit she came with. Bat emblem is also electric tape, airbrushed with gold leaf over gloss black. Various gold rings and bracelets(minus her vanilla armband) are from Michael's. Battle-Ready version: Hands are from ML Wolfsbane. Wings are modified TB Leagure Purgatori, I filled in the holes of her wings with apoxie sculpt and painted them black and grey (this is before I had an airbrush so go easy on me). No real way to attach wings to a silicone body so I attached them to a flight stand. Head is Marvel Legends Rogue (the green one). I painted black to give the illusion of fangs and painted her eyes to match the 90s Harris Vampirella comics. She also had a brown leather jacket like in the comics, but I gave it to Rogue (lightly modified) instead. Thinking about adding a tan trench coat in the future, or the long black/red jacket that replaced her Warren-era Dracula cape. Feel free to critique or ask me any questions about Vampi! ![]() |
