This was a spur of the moment project I stumbled into as I was looking in my fodder bin. The monster head was a 3D print I had printed at the wrong size so it had been sitting around for a while. After the umpteenth time moving it, I figures "Hey, this would make for a good diorama piece". The concept was pretty simple-it's a defeated monsters head laying on a semi forested/alien ground. The goal was to make a monster based diorama that would fit figure scales from 3.75 to 6 inch, although any could really work since the monster is made up and has no concrete, real world scale. The base was a piece of modeling wood and measures about 12 inches long by about 5 inches wide. Of course, it was painted and all the foilage was added with modeling glue. I particularly liked using a base that was longer instead of wider so it could fit on shelves or desks better without hanging off. Again, the monster head was 3D printed and then painted. I used hot glue for the blood pool which also served to attach the head to the base. I wanted it to look sufficiently dead but without going over the top gory, so I used dark green for the blood color which I think came out well. When completely assembled, everything was hit with sealer to help protect the paint. Overall I'm very happy with it, it works well as a base diorama for pretty much any scale figures and allows things to be displayed with a bit more flair. ![]() |
