Getting the wings from a DCUC figure onto an ML female body was difficult and made this custom take a longer time than other recent ones. I had to take apart the wings from a DCUC Hawkman so I could heat and pry off the inset glued base of the hinge off his back. (DCUC Hawkgirl's wings are exactly the same as Hawkman's but Hawkgirl is too expensive for foddering). The ML Hellcat upper torso's back curve was different than DCUC's so there was little space to mount the wing assembly in a way that would keep the wings vertically straight enough and not canted backwards pulling the figure off balance. I carved an inlet space in her back to hold the assembly better and used screws instead of glue to hold it onto the back. After I got it on securely I tried posing her before doing any painting and the wing assembly was on a bit high and she fell backwards when standing because the wing tips didn't touch the ground to help hold a standing pose like how I wanted. So I had to take it apart and do it again. It was hard to get the placement right because just a bit too high and the wings don't help in standing at all, and just a bit too low and they cause her feet to come off the ground and she falls. And I can't keep getting it wrong or the space where the wing assembly goes in would be ruined from too many screw holes of failed attempts. Luckily I got it right on the second try. The second problem was after getting everything painted and I put the head on, the hair and wings would get in each other's way and made it really hard to get her in poses. I trimmed some width off the flowing hair and made it thinner in some parts underneath so that it would fit through the gap between the two wings. I also drilled and inserted 2 wires into the hair, then heated the hair so I could bend the flowing part up. The wires kept the bend as the hair cooled and should keep it from returning to its original position. With that the flowing hair in the back is higher like there's more wind blowing and it keeps the hair from interfering with her looking up for flying poses. She's part of my ongoing effort to make ML compatible versions of my DC must have characters. ML Hellcat body. ML Silk head. DCUC Hawkman wings ML Eternals Sersi hands ML Blink loincloth ![]() |
