I will first share some history of the character since some folks may not know. She is a fairly deep cut in Marvel history. Malibu Comics was a competing comic company in the early 90's. They ran a series known as "Ultraverse." And part of that Ultraverse centered around a character known as Mantra. Long story short, a warrior named Lukasz is one of 12 agents of a wizard known as Archimage enlisted to fight Archimage's brother Boneyard. Lukasz is slain by a character named Warstrike. Archimage saves Lukasz's soul. Lukasz's soul ends up in the body of a woman named Eden Blake. And upon invoking the words/Mantra "Change, Growth, Power" (Later I think this was changed to just saying Mantra?) she turns into Mantra who is adept at martial arts and white and black magic and the elements of earth. Anyway the comic was fairly short lived. It did have a tv show at one point. Marvel bought Malibu and the series continued for a bit longer. Unfortunately it was canceled. Talk of a reboot had been kicked around, but due to some unsavory crimes by the creator of Prime, and also due to some form of agreement, a return seems unlikely. There were a few toys for other characters in the Ultraverse from Galoob? But Mantra never got one. So Mantra as been born again in action figure form. This was a bit more involved than I initially thought. The legs and base body were a Marvel Legends Moonstone. The chest is from a Guardians of the Galaxy Angela. The pauldrons are from a X-men 97 Storm. The belt and arms are from a Legends Emma Frost. The hands are from the moonstone cause they were a bit larger. The pelvic curtain was also cut from a Emma Frost cape. The tops of the boots were sculpted. The head is from the Moonstone figure with repainted hair. The abdomen armor was also sculpted. The lower part of her "armorkini" was sculpted. And the hood and cloak were purchased from GPS lot. I had to slightly modify the angela chest enlarging the socket to fit on the moonstone body. I resculpted the legs to make the tops of the boots a bit taller. I cannot get the feet to move at all. They were stuck out of the box. The plastic is a bit gummy. I have sealed the figure and I feel like maybe I can put the feet inside a ziploc bag and immerse them in water to keep the figure from getting wet. I don't know. Otherwise I am happy with how she turned out. I may try and find a gripping hand a sword for her. ![]() |
