Doctor Fate was my first foray into comic book superheroes as a child, and my first experience using Aves Sculpt as a customizer. -Working using a Batman Armory Mask superglued atop a dremmeled down JLA Superman head, I sculpted the basic shape, then using Alex Ross' rendition of the mask, combined with the newer, more ornate/swirly version of the Helm of Fate, I used a dremmel to round out the detail and symmetry. -Sculpted gloves and chest with Aves Sculpt. -Dremmeled down/resculpted hips and shoulder joints to avoid paint rub -Cape comes from a ML Vision with a disc made from Aves Sculpt -Painted with Citadel grey-blue primer (that desaturated blue color Dr. Fate is drawn in now), then dry brushed. -Painted the rest of the figure in Vallejo Gold paint, and sealed with Vallejo Matte Varnish. The whole time I was making this figure, all I can remember is running about my house as a child with a yellow construction-paper Dr. Fate mask on with yellow rubber gloves. :) This was a really nice project to work on. I hope everyone whose a fan of the character here at Figure Realm enjoys it as much as I did creating this figure. :) ![]() |

I still use it on figures where I need a piece to be flexible (like a patched area on a cape or jacket), but Aves sculpt is far superior in terms of sculpting ability.
I'm really looking forward to the new DC Universe Dr. Fate + his modern Variant, but I wanted to tackle this project in custom form as a tribute to a childhood icon.
