Just about used every trick, from wielding a paint brush to smudging with sponges and thumbs, to render all that carnage and decay. Looks like some kid's throw-up more than art, but the zombie effect was actually rendered with a million little brush strokes of enamel and acrylic paint, using wash and dry-brush techniques. Usually zombies are easy to spot, with red blood and rotting flesh, but the Hulk has green blood AND green skin, so a darker, nail-polish green was used to depict his blood and show some contrast. A paler shade of puke was used to illustrate undead portions of his skin, detailed with veins and zombie grime. Added sculpt work with apoxie to show bullet wounds, and eroded flesh, also giving the figure lots of texture to feel. While researching pictures of burn victims and patients with skin lesions, thought it'd be visually cool to also sculpt a flap of skin draping across the Hulk's chest, results of a napalm attack or perhaps a really bad itch. And Wolverine managed to leave his signature claw marks across the Hulk's face as well! Got inspired to throw more arsenal at him, so decided to chuck a broken off spear head through his chest and lopped off a portion of his head to reveal his green brains! Added a close up shot of the face and the eyes - to get a sense of the zombie stench! This was extremely therapeutic to make, thanks for looking. ![]() |
