If you grew up reading comics in the 80's, then you'd most likely be a fan of John Byrne's art. Some of his best comics were his works on the Avengers, Xmen, and Fantastic Four. His drawing style made the characters uniquely beautiful, and had a natural fluid motion to them. Especially the way he drew Cap.
For this custom, originally wanted to use the John Byrne Superman figure for the head, but felt that the DC Direct Supes had a closer likeness. Beefed up the zombie Cap base, and re-did the fists. Got rid of the zombie grunge color, and gave the costume/shield a new coat of paint. The base figure already had a great chainmail sculpt to it, but really lacked any scare power as a zombie, so fixed up the neck and added a second head. The unmasked head is from a DC Aquaman, sculpted the mask around, and made neck pegs to fit. Cut the wingtips from plastic (less likely to chip or break) and got them to sit just right.
The cover shot, with Cap fighting his way thru fodder, took some planning/patience to set-up, and was almost as fun to shoot as making the custom.
Thanks for checking this out.

Byrne's art really got me into comics and kept me there in the first place. All those you mentioned plus his own creation, Alpha Flight was a must read for me. You could really feel the emotions of the characters he drew. Great job here and wow. Zombie Cap?!

I love how you brought the undead version of cap back to his mortal form so to speak!!! There is something completely funny about that! This guy looks great! Excellent effort!

really clean. I too thought zombie Cap was a great base for a traditional captain America. I was going to make the Realm of Kings Captain America with him.
Good fight sequence and tribute to Ray Mysterio 619! RIP

Very nice looking Cap. I would agree that you have captured Byrne's style pretty convingly, plus I am always happy to see another Cap custom.
