I bought a DC Direct Identity Crisis Zatanna for cheap, and for a long time was very unsatisfied with how it looked, simply because I much prefer Zatanna's stage magician outfit. As a customizer with not a lot of spare cash, I work with what I have, and turned Identity Crisis Zatanna into an approximation her more recognisable incarnation. I removed her cape, which was partially glued to the figure. The top hat, bowtie and waistcoat/bustier were sculpted using DAS air-drying clay. The top-hat was especially challenging - my first versions didn't look much like a top hat, and then I constructed it the same way a real hat would be constructed, with a rim, hollow body and top. The hat needs a bit of black blu-tack to stay on, though. The vest portion of her jacket was taken from Mattel's Joker, from their pre-DC Super Heroes Batman line. Almost everything apart from the skin was repainted, and then sealed with a gloss sealant for the sheen. The magic wand was a cut segment from a Q-tip, and is also attached to her hand via blu-tack. The base was packaged with the original figure. I am unhappy with the smudges on her skin, but I think I did an okay job for what is my second real custom ever. She measures 7.6 inches to the top of her hat. The first photograph is a comparison photo, with the original figure on the left and the custom on the right. Updated with a new coat of paint, and redid the hat. Still unable to salvage this, it's been a long time since I made this one, it's one of my first customs, and I hope I've improved a little with my newer customs. ![]() |
