Well, here it is. The conclusion of my Mego Big Jim's P.A.C.K. experiment. Man, I had a lot of fun putting this series together. I was thinking about letting these guys go, but at the last second I just couldn't do it. It's pretty dumb too because I am unemployed right now, living the American Dream as it were, that's why I have all this free time to be creating customs, photographing them, and then pontificating endlessly about them to complete strangers in some obscure corner of the interwebs. Ha ha! Anyways, Zorak is the last of the line in this particular series.
From the vintage box art: "His face changes! One minute: evil face of genius! The next: horrifying face of terror!"
"Archenemy of Big Jim's P.A.C.K! He's DOUBLE TROUBLE!" Also, in case you were having any difficulty understanding all of this, above his cellophane window it simply states, "The Enemy." There is a comic strip on the back that references Zorak as, "The Diabolical Genius From The Depths." The P.A.C.K. are on a mission to stop Zorak and his gang from, "undermining the world." Man, that's hilarious. I love that. Big Jim recognizes Zorak as a mad nuclear scientist who was chased into a mine that collapsed....but they never found his body. He explains that the years Zorak has spent underground have transformed him into a monster. Later, as Big Jim is patrolling alone in his Laservette (looks kinda like Speed Racer's car), he spots Zorak crawling up out of a manhole. I guess when they say Zorak lives underground, they mean he lives in the sewer. Ugh. No wonder his face is green. Big Jim shoots one laser gun burst at him and sends Zorak scurrying back into the sewers, where he vows to return soon and rule the world!
I was kind of disappointed when I read this strip because I wanted Zorak to be more dangerous and threatening. He almost becomes a sympathetic character ala The Phantom Of The Opera or something when you hear these stories of mobs chasing him to live in the sewers and stuff.
The vintage figure had a gimmick where if you pressed a button on his back, he had two different faces and you could switch back and forth between his normal human face and his monster face. Very awesome. That's why I gave him an extra head as an accessory, although realistically I don't ever see myself swapping heads and displaying him in his human guise. It's more of an aesthetic accoutrement that is meant to evoke nostalgia for the original toy.
Zorak was made with a re-strung CTVT body and a Mad Monsters Series 2 Devil head. His human head is Jean Lafitte from the CTVT Pirates line. All of his clothes are CTVT except his chain, which is from the fodder bin.
Thanks for looking! Hope you enjoyed the Mego Big Jim's P.A.C.K. series, I know I sure enjoyed making it!
