On the last expedition into the dark recesses of the imagination, several types of Aliens underwent the hybrid treatment. The project this time was to make as many diverse and interesting looking Aliens without repeating similar designs. It was helpful to make a list of the different themes, to have a guide, and not just randomly slap repetitive pieces together - but that might work too. Made from an assortment of various Alien fodder, the Mandrake was intended to look obscene, like a crime against nature. Originally had planned to put together a mane similar to a lion, but later felt that tentacles were a better replacement. It made more sense, on a genetic level, for this creature to have squid-like appendages rather than fur. Once assembled, the tentacles looked like roots from a mandrake plant, and the shape of mandrakes are said to resemble a man. Most likely used for sexual display in the Alien hive (hey, even xenomorphs do it!), and the tentacles definitely do put the triple X in Xenomorph! head/body - Mcfarlane Alien tentacles/legs - Devilman Saylos arms/tail- Hasbro Alien In this new series, there will be Aliens that no one has ever seen the likes before. Some of the hybrids will mimic the physical traits of its host or at least appear recognizable. Others will seem like it came from an entirely different petri dish. So if you're a fan of Aliens, strap on your motion detectors, set your pulse rifles to "game over", cuz it's gonna get trippy from here on in! Thanks for looking, and happy bug hunt. ![]() |
