Man Eaters are floating female torsos that can potentially be encountered in Atlus' 1994 Megami Tensei Gaiden: Rasuto Baiburu (Reincarnation of The Goddess Side Story: Last Bible) Sega Game Gear video game. Said title is an upgraded rendition (full color graphics, new enemy sprites, etc.) of the original gray-scale Gameboy version released in 1992. Last Bible was also ported to the Gameboy Color in 1999 (without the Game Gear enhancements), which is also the only time that it was ever translated into English and released in North America (re-named Revelations: The Demon Slayer.) In the Gameboy versions, Man Eaters are depicted as column-like carnivorous plants, however, the Man Eater was treated to a humanoid makeover for its Game Gear incarnation (regardless of appearance, the monster still functions the same in combat.) Like most of the creatures in the game, Man Eaters can potentially be recruited into your party by (carefully) negotiating with them during a battle, or you might spontaneously create one by fusing two other monsters together with Kishe's "Combine" spell.

Legends tell that, thousands of years ago, before She began Her crusade to purge all evil from the world, the Goddess first cleansed Herself, casting away all the negative aspects of Her nature. While most of those dark emotions withered and died when they were separated from Her divine flesh, others managed to survive and took on ghastly forms of their own, much to Her eternal sorrow and regret. Man Eaters are the twisted physical manifestation of one of those rejected qualities, namely, the hatred of all things masculine. While no male is safe from their predation, Man Eaters are particularly ill-disposed towards those that abuse women in any fashion. Rather than killing and devouring the offender immediately, the Man Eater instead injects him, via a bite, with a slow-acting poison that draws the victim's death out for several agonizing days. It is said that all the misery that a man has ever inflicted upon womankind during his lifetime is repaid to him a hundred-fold while he writhes in said toxin's feverish embrace. Females are never assaulted by Man Eaters, unless they willingly attempt to cause harm to the creature, in which case, the Man Eater considers them traitors to the universal sisterhood and strikes back without mercy.

It was never censored--to my knowledge, nothing, other than the "Last Bible" title, was altered (and even then, one can argue that the North American title, "Revelations: The Demon Slayer", is still very biblical in flavor.) The plant form IS the original version of the Man Eater, even in Japan. The U.S. version even has the uncensored naked female fairy monsters in it (handheld games in general seem to get away with nudity a lot more often than television gaming consoles do.) The Game Gear version, for whatever reason, has all the artwork redone--not only do the creatures look better, but they're generally more accurate representations of the actual mythological creatures than the Gameboy versions.
