"A man smiles a smile without mirth - rather a smile of death, the awesome ghastly grin of - THE JOKER!" This is my interpretation of a golden age Joker based on Conrad Veidt's appearance in the 1928 silent film "The Man Who Laughs" It has been reported that Gwynplaine's appearance was one of the inspirations for the look of the character in the comics. I can certainly see why and was always curious to see what that would look like. I was also inspired by the bust created by Peter Murphy. Its an awesome, scary piece for sure. This is by far one of my favorites and scariest pieces. It started as a Heath Ledger Joker mod. I wanted to give him a smile. But as I started working on him I got bored and decided to do something fresh. Then I noticed that Heath had some of the same facial features as Conrad Veidt (namely the hook nose and forehead) so I went with it. Several days of sculpting and a paint job later and this guy is ready to put a grim smile on anyone's face. Also I decided on a dark purple because Alex Ross once stated that he thought the suit was meant to be black with purple highlights and that it made the Joker look vampirish, which is something I wanted, kinda noirish.
