I had recently watched the first two Christopher Reeve Superman movies with my 5 year old son. My love for these movies flooded back, I felt great emotion. I really loved the evil characters of the Phantom Zone villains, and how Superman would have been defeated if he did not quickly outsmart them. I have a love for figures in the 3.75 inch size, because that is what I had when I was a kid. I bought the Infinite Heroes Superman for my son. People complain that this line doesn't feature enough articulation, but I say it is just enough because they are much sturdier than Marvel Universe figs. So I thought that generally the current selection of Superman villains in this size was almost non existent. How many times can you use Lex Luthor? So I got an idea when I saw a fig that slightly resembled Zod. I had never made a custom fig before, and hesitated for days to get it. When I did, and made it, I was so pleased with the result that I bought two more figs to make into NON and URSA. After that, seeing how much profit could be made on certain sites, I went ahead and started making a couple more sets. This set is currently the only complete set I have, I still need to make 2 more Ursas to complete 2 more. I don't want to reveal what base figures I used, because I want it to remain secret. I don't like the idea of people trying to remake my idea better. I will say I used a combination of quick setting Epoxy Putty and Aves Apoxy Sculpt, and a combination of academic level acrylic paints and Model Master Gloss Black Acryl.
I have seen some customs before of these figures, also I have seen the Movie Masters Zod. They are all awesome, but these figures are unique and one of a kind for their size. Zod has full articulation, Ball Joint legs and shoulders, swivel wrists and feet, swing knees, feet and elbows, and turning head. Non has the same except no wrist or ankle movement, and swivel legs. Ursa has very basic articulation, Waist and head swivel and leg and shoulder swivel, no elbows, but jointed knees. You can find more pictures of these on a popular video uploading site and the current site this is linked to.
