Custom #:34681
Name:Thundarr the Barbarian
Custom Type:Action Figure
Toy Series:Thundarr the Barbarian
Creator:Hammer of the Gods
Date Added:November 30, 2011
Base Figure:WWE Paul Orndorf
Height:6.50 inches
Thundarr the Barbarian is my favorite cartoon series of all time. I made a Marvel Universe scale Thundarr set a while back and recently sold them. I don’t know if it was separation anxiety or the fact that Boskoes recently posted their awesome 6” set - I was compelled to take another crack at these characters.

This time I wanted to keep the essence of the Alex Toth character designs but amp up the realism. For Thundarr I used a WWE Paul Orndorf base figure with a Sota Guile head and LH Conan hair. The fur tunic and boots came from a Toynami Thundarr and the Sun Sword is a hot glue blade with a fodder hilt. I wanted the energy blade to look ferocious and extended the handle so it can accommodate two handed grips.

Ookla and Ariel are done and will be posted soon.

I got the official WB DVD set the first week it was out. Like you, I'd been waiting for the set to hit DVD forvever. I was getting by with the episodes I DVRed off of Boomerang but having the official set is awesome. They just put out an official DVD set of The Herculoids so I'll be getting that one soon.

The hot glue technique is pretty simple and something I developed through trial an error while making this set. I used the thin, clear plastic from a bubble/blister (from typical action figure packaging)as a base and applied the hot glue (with a high temp mini glue gun)in the desired shape on one side. When the glue was cooled and solid, I repeated the application on the flip side. When both sides are cooled, I cut out the shape and used clear acrylic paint from Testors and Tamiya to tint the pieces. Took a few practice runs to get it just right but it isn't too complicated.
