Well, my Dad just turned 69 and I wanted to get him something awesome for his birthday, but what do you get a guy that already has everything he wants? I decided to throw down on some custom Lone Ranger and Tonto figures, since we both have a shared love for the property (and Westerns in general). Also, he is an artist and used to draw cartoons of The Lone Ranger for me when I was a little kid, much to my delight. It seemed like magic would spring from his fingertips as he drew, and it was hard for me to fathom how anybody could draw with such speed and accuracy. It just didn't seem possible. Anyway, I am very thankful to my parents for getting me interested in pursuing art, as it has enriched my life tremendously. My Dad was pretty stoked on his gift, and says he will cherish these figures forever. Happy Birthday Pops!
The Lone Ranger was made using a modded Indiana Jones head (you haven't lived until you've sculpted a bandit mask on a head in this scale lol!), Wild Bill arms, torso, gun and hands, not sure about the thighs but pockets were dremeled off of them, Dreadnok Torch knees, and POC Destro boots. Not sure about the belt/holster. Also his elbow joints were swiped from a RAH Cobra Commander. I tried swapping out joints on this project, using ones that were the same color as my base color to combat paint rub, with mixed results. A lot of times the joints don't fit right, and it's easier to just shave the original ones down. Still - nothing ventured, nothing gained, I guess...it's nice when it works.
Tonto was made using a Spirit body and hands, with Wild Bill arms. His loincloth/belt is from an Avatar Neytiri. The head is from a vintage Spirit that was modded to work with the RAH body. I felt that the vintage head worked better with this character. The sculpt on the RAH Spirit is amazing but it reminds me of Johnny Cash for some reason lol. All of the buttons and collars/pockets were dremeled off of the torso. Not sure about where the hatchet came from (the fodder bin!).
Mahalo my friends!

Those figures look so fantastic! Just like the originals, no doubt! And I own the complete Legend of the Lone Ranger figures, all five of them.

This is one of those...wow, take me back to 12 noon on a Saturday! Great job my man! Your dad is lucky. Remember that failed movie they tried putting out and then they wouldn't let the real Lone Ranger wear his mask anymore?? what a crock!

Thanks brother! YEAH MAN, actually I got to meet Clayton Moore (the guy who played The Lone Ranger) at an autograph appearance when I was a kid, and he was wearing sunglasses because they wouldn't let him wear his mask. Even though I was too young to understand copyright infringement and stuff like that, I was f'in FURIOUS about that kind of shoddy treatment of one of my heroes The Lone Ranger lol! I wish I still had that autograph, but it's been lost to the sands of time...Anyway, always on the look-out for the next FASTFREDDIE masterpiece here on the realm!

I have to agree with the scale, its very hard to work on, but looking at these two customs you did a superb job on this.

Gracias amigo! I am planning on doing some 12 inchers in the near future, which is a format you are well versed in. It will be a nice break from dealing with the seemingly endless minutiae of customizing 4 inchers. Hopefully I can capture some of the same fire and personality that you manage to get out of your sculpts at that scale. You are the undisputed King of Michael Myers customs - bravo!

Thanks Unknownsoldier13! Sorry but I am unable to post pics or links here. My Dad has made a decent living making art and is well known in his field for creating large scale abstract expressionist prints called Mono-types. Also I wanted to compliment you on the Mego Pocket Super Heroes re-paints - those things are awesome!

Gracias Necro - you have one of the best handles on The Realm. Looking forward to seeing some more of your trademark Lanterns - also that Ovion re-paint you did had me doing back-flips as that was a much beloved toy of my youth. Kudos!

your dad looks like a very cool man. And now with his gift, he´s surely a lucky and proud one, too. Used to love the lone ranger as a kid, and even though I don´t like this scale, I love your figures. Excellent job, bro, and congratulations to you and to your dad, for having each other!

Thanks a lot Ringo - yeah he's a great guy. "The man of the hour, too sweet to be sour..." lol. Yeah, I like to work in all different scales to keep things from getting stale, but I've found the 4 inch scale to be the most challenging, so I don't like it either (even though I love it lol). Also, my toymania peaked in the late 70s/early 80s so I am largely a product of the Kenner Star Wars/Hasbro Joes era. FML lol

Thanks 3b - coming from you that is a humbling comment. I don't know how you do it man, imo the 4 inch scale is the most difficult of all the standard scales for customizing...paint apps are a nightmare at this size! I like using Joes though because I can buy them in bulk cheap!
