It was brought to my attention that the color was off in the photo! My camera and I neither one know how to photograph white apparently. So, here he is again with a quick photo on a black background! No introduction necessary, here he is, Aunt Petunias favorite Nephew! The King of Yancy Street! Mrs. Grimm's Blue-Eyed Boy! You all know him The Ever-Lovin' Blue-Eyed Thing! "It's Clobbering Time!" and old Benjamin J. Grimm is serving up his SUNDAY PUNCH! At 7'1" and weighing in at 1200lbs. this blue-eyed, bald behemoth is able to lift 100 plus tons. He can withstand temperatures from -75 to 800 degrees Fahrenheit. His rock-like hide can withstand over 15 pounds of explosives per square inch, as well as the pressure of the oceans deepest depths. The Thing's skin is nearly impervious to damage. Withstanding both the Hulk's punch and Mjolnir. This was a labor of love folks. He has been my favorite Marvel character ever since I was a kid. I almost didn't post this up after seeing 1987olds442 use the same recipe. I had originally planned on giving the credit to GrownNerd as his was the first I ever saw do this! Both of them did a wonderful job putting this guy together. I hoped to make mine different though. I really wanted the Marvel Showdown Thing in a 6" format. I never understood why he never got made? Thing here was made using the ML series 2 Thing torso and head. I used a Thunder Launch Thing I had received with a broken left arm for the arms waist and legs. Cracked open the Thunder Launch things torso to remove the waist. Drilled the abs of Series 2 Thing and reshaped the peg hole on the top for better range of motion. I sanded down the legs to bring him closer to scale and reworked the joint. Then I fixed the broken arm peg using a bolt and glue. I removed the head and altered the joint hole so that he has increased movement. The legs were disassembled to allow me to sand the knee joints to allow him to stand straighter. The inner joint on the hips were sanded inward to allow more movement as well. The hands were removed and the peg was cut off. Then the hand and wrist were hollowed out and a new peg hole was drilled to accept the ball joint. His wrist joint was taken from a ML Angel's shoulders and sculpted to match. The weird shoulder joint has always bothered me so I sanded it down so that it would sit flush inside of his torso. Then I re-sculpted the joint as well as his back to hide the space when his shoulder is open. I filled the peg holes although mostly to add the bulk to make him more like the Showdown Thing. The head sculpt was re-worked to resemble the Showdown Thing as well. His mouth was cut open and a wedge was inserted to leave it open while I sculpted the teeth. He was wearing shorts but those have been re-sculpted as well. To shorten this up, the only parts that weren't sculpted were the ball-shoulders, hands, eyes balls, and feet. Everything else was sculpted! Recipe: Head and Torso- ML series 2 Thing( Re-sculpted), no before shot so you could check out 1987olds442's Thing. Arms, Legs, and Waist- Thunder Launch Thing Wrist Ball Joint- ML Angel shoulders sculpted Aves Fixit-Sculpt was used in layers for sculpting and bulking. Seven colors of MM Acrylics were used to paint him up. Everything was sealed using a Krylon Matte Finish! The P.O.A. was calculated like TBML. I hope you enjoy this and THANKS for looking! Comments are welcomed and appreciated! Happy Voting Realmers! A LITTLE EXTRA! I added A couple early to mid WIP shots of Thing as well his unfinished friend Lockjaw who was supposed to accompany him. With 38 points of articulation himself it was a bit ambitious for this contest and my schedule. Lockjaw had a complete re-sculpt over chopped up parts. A Zangief ab-crunch attached to an LCBH Clownface. Hips balls from Grey Hulk(FRONT) and Marv(REAR). Upper legs from both UFC and WWE figs. A homemade lower torso made of a bucket and sculpt. Feet from a broken Zabu. Head completely resculpted over Mr. Beefy's with MU Wrecker arms for ears so he can be "Bat Dog" on car rides and the series 2 Things forearm for the jaw joint. 6pts. of artic in the head alone! A MU IM arm for a tail and a cars old weather stripping for a tongue with wire to remove it for the growl effect! Mr. Grimm misses his slobbery friend and hopes he can join him after the contest! ![]() |
