So, I wanted to add a "Modern" Giant Man and Wasp to my shelves... However, I've never been happy with the notion that you should have a 12" giant figure in a 3.75" inch line... it's just too big for characters like Giant man. I decided instead to modify a DCUC figure (Marvel Legends was still more or less defunct at the time, and DCUC was the most in-scale with what I wanted). I bounced back and forth on whether to shell out and get a BAF for him, but finally I just went down to Toys R Us and picked up the figure I thought looked closest out of what I had available. Finding a base for Wasp was a bit harder. I didn't really like any of the Wasp figures that have come out for the line: This is a character with more costumes than perhaps any other comic character EVER, and Hasbro couldn't use one of them that looked decent? I scoured stores in my area for a fairy thing that was small enough, but nothing looked to be properly in scale with the MU line. Then I lucked into the idea of using Heroclix... the things were already tiny to being with, and a character like Wasp would be even more-so. Bases in hand, I sculpted most of the details on Giant Man using Fixit Sculpt and got down to painting them both. The biggest problem I had was actually the antenna on Hank... the blasted things just kept breaking. Finally I broke down and gave him ones that were a bit thicker and stubbier than I'd have wanted, just to make sure I wouldn't lose them again. Please wait... |
