Hi Guys,

Re:Walmart Exclusive Stealth Ironman Repainted

Hey i really loved the Avengers Movie by the way , it was epic!!

Well I have been doing a lot of searching and I finally decided I am never going to get a 6inch Movie Ironman .They are just so damn scarce!!. Then I wondered if I could repaint the Stealth coloured version from walmart so i bought it and I never looked back.
First off I sanded every seam line and plastic mess to a smooth finish.I gotta say though that the stealth Ironman was very crisp and clean to begin with. Then sprayed it with Tamiya Metallic Silver which gave it a really bright shiny almost chrome like finish. Then sprayed the body with Tamiya clear Red and it came out without any imperfections at all.I then painted the gold and filled the details in .It took about 14 hours all up , the Gold was the hardest because of the texture of the gold made it a little chunky in spots.I had to redo the gold a second time but thinned it out ( i learned something haha!). Once it was finished I was blown away how nice and crisp it looked. Well let me know what you think, I am really proud of this one.

My feeling with this figure is it feels like it is Cyber- whatever that is supposed to mean...
Cheers !

Thank you so much for the tips. I usually like to steel wool my figures all over to dull them and give them a good soap and water wash before painting.

I am also glad to hear you confirm my frustrations with Tamiya brush paints. They are beautiful when they cooperate! You can check out my album here, I don't have a lot of customs, but I do have an Iron Patriot I painted a while back using the Tamiya clear brush paints over silver. It came out great, but was definitely not easy!! I was always fearful of trying the Tamiya spray cans on figures since spray paint in a big no-no for PVC plastics. Apparently Tamiya is a formula that works!

I never thought of using the steel woosh clean up trick before - thanks for tip I will have to give a try for sure -- I also heard that walmart now have a "the Avengers" style 6"inch Ironman - iam keen to get that one if I can - Iam also looking for the equivalent War Machine but because I live in Australia I'm having some issues finding one.

Mike, this is beautiful and exactly the results I am hoping to get on my Stealth Strike Iron Man I picked up at Toys R Us. Like you, I wanted a nice Mark IV. I want to ask, when you sprayed this, did you use spray cans or an airbrush? I was curious because I would like to try this instead of hand brushing. Plus I thought that spray can paint won't dry well on these.

thanks mate I am glad you liked this, actually in regards to your question, it is way better and more efficient timewise to use the spray cans. But only use Tamiya Model Spray paints , they are fast drying , and very very pristine in the colour and not to mention Robust and durable.I uses Tamiya Metallic Silver and Tamiya Clear Red for plastic. I recommend before spraying sanding down any imperfections though. And before you use the metallic Silver shake it for about 10 mins this way you get more of a chromed effect. The sprays are better because when you hand paint around the joints etc you risk making it gluggy (trust me it sucks). The sprays made a nice even coat that looked factory painted. The gold was hand painted only because the risk of masking over the red could lift it up. I also recommend getting a small pot of clear red so you can hand brush over tiny little areas that my need touching up .Method is metallic silver first , until your happy with the shine, then clear red .It takes a few sprays for the red to really showing depth . I even thought about using clear yellow over the silver for the gold areas - that would look awsome.
Thanks for the comments and I hope this helps, you should take a photo and put it up when your finished I would love to see it

Cheers Mike

OK, wow. That's a lot of work to put into making the stealth one into a regular one. But it actually looks better than the Mk IV you could have gotten at Walmart in 2010. Like, a lot better. The spray clear red really came out nice. And the details are really crisp and sharp. Excellent job.

Thanks mate cheers - it wasn't that much work to do , it just took working what to paint etc , I had to use a lot of reference material to make sure I got a look that was similar to the movie version . Cheers & thanks
