Ok. I've seen a LOT of custom cloth capes on this site. A LOT. I'm glad you've all seen the error of Mattel's ways and taken it upon yourselves to improve on an already overpriced figure! Kudos!

But now it's time to get down to brass tacks.

I have the perfect pattern for a Christopher Nolan series cape. I've pictured it below. Spread out on my DK figure and shown on a standing Begins figure. The DK figure's is made of a super stretchy fabric like you'd find in a pair of yoga pants and Begins' is a stretch velvet.

The Pledge: An ordinary cape (shown standing) with ELEVEN points on it.

The Turn: A spread out cape in glider form with SEVEN points on it.

The Prestige: It's. The. SAME. CAPE.

Here's the trick: If you get the length right the natural folds where the fabric meets the ground will CREATE the extra points NATURALLY. You can just slightly see this effect in action in the side profile of Begins (DK out of focus in the foreground).

Now you're probably wondering why I used different fabrics for each figure...you're not? Well I'm gonna tell you anyway! The velvet is the proper texture for the "Batman Begins" look. It flows well and practically absorbs light (there's an actual science to why velvet does this. Google it.) The "Dark Knight" figure (as streamlined as I've made him) still suffers from having shoulder pads. This makes it virtually impossible for a cape to flow over his shoulders and look natural. He doesn't really ever to this in "The Dark Knight" so I went with a lighter, thinner material that would look better folded over his shoulders. The patterns are identical.

For being such an integral part of Batman's character Mattel REALLY dropped the ball on this front. For more pics of the velvet cape see my "CUSTOM BATMAN BEGINS" figure!!!
