And last in my Power of Grayskull Contest entries, the ridiculous Ram-Man!

Seriously, he's a man, and he rams stuff. With his head. And in the old cartoon, his LEGS were SPRINGS. No really, ridiculous is the right word.

As a child, my best friend Alex owned EVERY MOTU figure. Literally. EVERY LAST ONE. He still has them, as far as I know, and he's likely sitting on a fortune. Me? I owned exactly two MOTU figures. Battle-Armor Skeletor with the rotating "battle damage" chest, and Ram-Man. For that reason alone, I have a certain fondness for the character. Not to mention a certain level of childhood trauma and emotional scarring . . . see, I left Ram-Man at my uncle's house one day, and when I came back a few days later, I discovered, much to my horror, that his stoner roommate had cut a large gouge in his head and epoxied his axe into the helmet, then painted the word "Red-Cabbaage" on his back (the nickname of their other roommate) as a joke. I was FIVE YEARS OLD, and they had just utterly destroyed my favorite toy. Who does that to a kid, huh? Still, I kept him, and I had him lying around until I was at least twenty. Ah, memories. Needless say, when I began working on this MOTU Hybrid project, I always intended to leave a special place for Ram-Man.

MOTU Hybrid is my attempt to unify the best of all three MOTU eras. The ideas (i.e. color schemes and concepts) of the original cartoon, the sculpts of the 2002 toys, and the articulation of modern figures, at a far more reasonable cost. Unlike the other entries in this contest, Ram-Man was pretty straightforward. Just add joints and replace his legs, add some height, and that was all she wrote.

Started with a 2002 MOTU Ram Man, removed the legs (along with spring-loaded battering ram action feature, no ramming for this man :P ) and skirt. I sculpted the bottom of his gut to make him taller (2002 cartoon design, Ram Man is huge, but the 2002 figure is kinda short, though not as short as the original), then reattached the skirt and cut it into strips as it should be. I used the lower half of a movie Hellboy figure as the base of the legs. Shortened slightly, and spliced in the boot cuffs from Ram Man's original legs, then completely re-sculpted the legs to get that "Michelin Man" ridged texture Ram Man is famous for. I spliced some ML Wolverine ball shoulder joints into the arms to make ball elbows, making the arms longer and giving the arms hinge elbows and bicep rotation. After a full repaint, this big guy was done, and properly massive too! His only accessory is his trusty hand axe.

Just gotta make sure my uncle and his friends never get ahold of him . . . .

By the power of Grayskull!

As far as lighting goes, I gave up getting it right with artificial sources. I just take the pictures outside and let the sun do the work for me. Now into to the figure, looks great.

Thanks for checking out Ram-Man!

It's mostly the combination of my camera's "light filter/auto-dim" feature and my constant tweaking in Photoshop. The more light in the box, the more the camera dims, the more I have to adjust in PS, it's a bit of a vicious circle. And if I turn off the light filter, the pic is too bright from the start, and it's just a royal PITA . . . it's a process, let me tell you! Big part of the reason why I post so sporadically, I HATE photography and I HATE how long it takes to adjust the digital pics. But, necessary evils.

What an AWESOME Rammie!!! He's been flawlessly put together so well, you forget how the original 200x version looks like. AMAZING work here, Batman1016!

Thanks so much! He doesn't look all that different from the original, just taller. One of my great regrets is that he can't still "ram," his action feature is necessarily gone. Shame, I like to keep the action features whenever possible (these are still "toys" after all), but there was no choice if I wanted the poseable legs. Well, I'm glad people like him!

I thought this would place much higher, it's probably the most accurate and well done rammy I've seen! Great work bud!!

I blame my photography. He looks so washed out. Two and a half years doing this and I still can't get the hang of proper lighting and camera settings and photo correction and everything else. Bleh. And don't even get me STARTED on Webstor's photos . . . .

In any case, thanks for the compliment! I worked REALLY hard to make his legs look right, and I'm thrilled with the end result.
