I've done the cloth cape a couple times now and I've got it figured out for this new figure. I had to be much more precise with the holes for the cape to be pulled through. If your off it will show pretty badly. The entire figure is given a black wash to deepen the texture details in the costume and muscles. The silver banding also gets a detailing individually. Joints in the knees and elbows have been deepened for added articulation. The neck and hips and ankles have also been altered for better flight posing. I removed the lowest banding connected to the t-crotch to allow the legs to go further back and forward for added standing and flying poses. That's really it. Oh and the bank vault is made of foam sheeting and styrofoam.... And glue sticks... And a car part. ![]() |
I kinda thought they left it out for two reasons: (1) To not disrupt the torso design and the ribbing (although NECA proved it can be done) and (2) to cut down on the cost. Not sure the runner cape cancelled it out because the Batman/Dark Knight MM figures had rubber capes (granted, not as large as this cape). I like cloth capes too, but I think I like sculpting the folds over the shoulders to get that to look just right and, in this case, not bulky. Super jazzed about the movie though and I'm sure you are too!
I've come to experiment quite a bit with the capes here lately to address the bulk and presentation over the shoulders. There are definitely a few ways to go. I was a big fan of sculpting the tops and then fitting the cape afterward but I really just love a good well done fabric cape. You can imagine I'm pretty partial to the process by now. Its basically one aspect that got me in to customizing in the first place. I know that Mattel doesn't want ANY part of that in a production setting but I sure wish they'd try though.
Yeah I do hold a special contempt for the rubber capes. I really think if this figure had come with a fabric cape we may have also gotten our ab-crunch joint. I think the rubber cape canceled that out. I'm currently working on a set up to correct BOTH of those issues. Stay tuned!!!
