Okay, here comes the fourth figure in my series of conjectural characters based upon the premise that what if another Golden Age hero other than Superman was given a teenage superhero career? So, using that idea as my basis, I came up with Wonder Boy. This one isn't so much a what if another Golden Age hero had a teenage superhero career, so much as it is a what if DC had never sued Fox Publications over Wonder Man. Hypothetically, Victor Fox and Will Eisner would have continued publishing Wonder Man adventures, giving him parallels to everything that Superman had or would eventually have had...he would probably have had parallels to Luthor, Ultra-Humanite, the Prankster, Mister Mxyztplk/Mxyzptlk, and Superboy, etc.

To do this figure, I first took a Superboy figure from the DC Direct Silver Age Superboy/Supergirl boxset and, using the boil and pop method, completely disassembled the figure. Next, I used my Dremel to remove the figure’s cape, belt, and boot tops. While the figure was disassembled, I mixed up a small batch of Milliput and covered over the top of the trunks. When the Milliput had dried, I sanded the new trunks smooth. Next, I used a small amount of Tamiya Putty White to fill in the grooves of the Superboy chest symbol and to cover over the areas of the legs where the boot tops used to be. When the putty had dried, I sanded the chest and legs smooth, and repeated the above step. Next, I removed the collar from a DC Direct 52 Series 1 Booster Gold and, after mixing up another small batch of Milliput that I applied around the neck, I pushed the Booster Gold collar down onto the Milliput to create a groove for it to sit on. With the collar groove now drying, I set about a full repaint of the disassembled body in Testors Model Masters Acryllic Insignia Red and Insignia Yellow. While the paint dried, I began the construction of the ring on the right hand. Now, in order to do this, I drilled a small pilot hole into the ring finger of the right hand from a DC Direct Legion of Super-Heroes Ferro Lad, and after clipping back a sewing pin that had a ball top on it, I pushed the shortened pin into the hole until I was happy with the depth. After pulling it out, I squirted a small amount of Testors modeling cement into the hole, and after pressing and holding it in place for a good three minutes, I pulled my fingers away to allow it to dry in place. I also took notice that the sewing pin had recessed itself a bit further into the hand than I had originally planned, which, after closely inspecting it, realized made it look more like the ring that it was supposed to be. Once the glue had completely set, I applied two coats of Caucasian flesh tone to the hands and two coats of Shiny Gold to the ring. After the paint had dried, I applied two coats of Flat Clear to both hands and two coats of Gloss Clear to the ring, completing the hands.

Next, I painted the neck with the Caucasian flesh tone paint. Once it had dried, I glued the collar in place with the Testors modeling cement. When the glue had dried, I coated each piece of the body with two coats of Flat Clear, and once that had dried, I reassembled the figure, minus the head.

With the flat clear now dry, and the body fully assembled, I began the work on the head. First, I took an extra head from a DC Direct Crisis on Infinite Earths Series 3 Earth-Prime Superboy and trimmed off the spitcurl with my Exacto knife. When this was done, I lightly sanded the forehead till it was smooth. Next, using a small batch of Milliput, I reshaped the hair and created the mask on the figure's face. When the Milliput had dried, I repainted the hair with Cadmium Yellow, the mask with Insignia Red, and the forehead with the Caucasian flesh tone. Once all paint on the head was dry, I gave it two coats of Flat Clear, and then once that dried, I attached the head.

Lastly, I glued a new chest symbol onto the figure that resembled the design used for Wonder Man in Wonder Comics #1 (the symbol was made by hand at a larger size, and then photocopied and shrunk to proper size...also, since I did not have markers that matched the red and yellow of the costume, I cut out all of the areas of the symbol that would have been red with my Exacto knife, and then glued the symbol to the chest UNcolored...when the glue finally dried, I used my detail brush to paint the white paper with two coats of the Insignia Yellow...when that dried, I gave it two coats of Flat Clear), and TA-DA...Wonder Boy!!!
