I used a 1/100 Shin matsunaga zaku (a gundam model kit) for Hatch (the mobile suit) and a cheap kiddie toy crossbow/gun with various cheap toy parts for Desert Lightning (the vehicle/mount) i gave the zaku a big gauntlet as he is a brawler type. dings and scratches were also added for the battle damage and used grounded charcoal and rust pigments for the weathered and rust effects on the paint job. most of the real work went into desert lightning (the vehicle/mount) the core is from a plastic to crossbow cut up into two and reversed the other half, mounted it again to the other half to create the core/seat of the vehicle/animal. i found a cheap robot with reverse jointed legs (i ought two sets) and used those four legs for desert lightning. the head is from a knockoff lion marble shooter. B-DAMAN toy)the neck parts were from an old laptop microphone, screw driver holder, and flexible plastic pipes. the hard part was putting them all together and making them blend. i cut up several small plastic pieces to act as braces for combining the different parts. all joints of the mount is still movable and playable. and again, added lots of scratches and dings and rust/weathering effects. STORY: "What do you mean I don't have enough weapons? I AM the weapon!" Hatch's father was a former government soldier who pilots a military issued white zaku. He then left the army and went rogue, built an underground rebel faction called REBOLUSYON PERPETUA and fought the government together with other rebel mobile suit pilots who found out the truth about the government that they were serving for years. They were hunted down and the "great white zaku" got destroyed in battle, killing Hatch's father in the process. The remains of the "great white" was left on the desert battlefield for years... left untouched, gathering rust and dust, it served as a warning to all of the remaining rebel soldiers to never mess with the authorities. Hatch, a street fighter/brawler/delinquent is the only son of the former great white zaku's pilot and leader of the rebel faction. He secretly fixed the "great white", took it and used it on underground battles. (kinda like MMA fights where a mobile suit is pitted against another inside a ring.) Hatch became one of the most feared fighters of the underground tourneys. "the great white brawler", "the white shadow" are just some of the monickers that he was known for. the most fearsome hand to hand fighter who ever grazed the face of the earth. Will hatch continue his father's legacy? or remain an underground brawler, bashing heads and knuckles for the rest of his life? Hatch is a flightless mobile suit, (despite the fact that the original mobile suit was a high mobility flight/space type which was piloted by his late great father) well... he can fly if he wanted to, but he refuses to fix the boosters and settled as a land type brawler for some "personal reasons". Not being able to fly. he needed a way to transport his mobile suit. hence. members of the underground faction (Rebolusyon Perpetua)devised a mechanical beast that Hatch can ride for long distance travels. Desert Lightning has very low fuel consumption, runs fast and has built in radar/signal jammers at it's back. (very useful because the under ground faction is being hunted down by the government). it also has EMP blasters that renders enemy's energy based weapons useless, giving them no choice but to fight with Hatch Mano y mano... a fight Hatch has never lost before. ![]() |

This should've been my entry for the "gears and gadgets contest" but I was late in uploading it. (uploaded it august 1st)
I've been experimenting on Gundams/mechs lately. They've opened up a whole new dimension for me and I'm enjoying it.
Building the kit alone is a challenge in itself but it's really entertaining. I think I will make more action figure/mech mash ups in the future.
thanks guys! keep on creating those cool figures. salute to all of you!
