The Walking Bread was an OMFG (Outlandish Mini Figure Guys) character concept, designed and drawn by October Toys forum member "theRobotMonster", that I really liked and decided to bring to life in 3-dimensional form. Zombified baked goods are silly and awesome enough as-is, but it's the title (a pun on "The Walking Dead") that really puts the whole thing over the top. While it appeared in the submissions thread, for whatever reason(s), The Walking Bread was not a choice in the poll for OMFG Series 4. That's a shame, as I felt it was amongst the strongest designs and would have been a serious contender for a spot in the top five. I should note that, while theRobotMonster's take on the character may be original, the basic concept isn't. If you type the words "Walking Bread" into your favorite search engine, you'll find numerous images (drawings, digitally-manipulated photos, T-shirts, etc.) depicting various interpretations of the undead creature.
I struggled a bit with how I should approach making this figure. On the one hand, in keeping with the spirit of OMFG, I felt that I should make an unarticulated The Walking Bread toy, painted a single color, because that's how it would have appeared if it was produced by October Toys. But, on the flip side of the coin, I was also of the opinion that the color contrast between a loaf of bread's darker crust and lighter interior was needed to really bring the design to life, and that articulation is often better than immobility. After mentally arguing those points back-and-forth with myself for a while, I ultimately decided to go with a fully-painted action figure, instead of a monochromatic sculpture, which I think was the right choice in this particular case.
This Walking Bread toy was made completely from scratch in two days and was finished with acrylic paint. It has eleven points of articulation (neck, shoulders, elbows, thighs, knees, and ankles). Bread is most definitely food, so I feel this figure meets the criteria for the Food for Thought contest, although I'd hate to think what would happen to someone if they actually ate a slice of putrid zombie bread...

Really amazing, the details are scary. It seems like a slice of bread. Maleficent ofcourse.
