This was my first commission for a friend of mine who loves Borderlands and is a HUGE Whovian. I bought a stuffed TARDIS as a visual reference but decided to use the light from it. It also had a sound chip but that got taken out because it couldn't fit inside... yeah, that's my excuse. I originally started to do the line work with a fine point sharpie, but my hands were shaking too much so I just cut the windows and some of the panels off the plushie and glued them on. I also used a label maker for the top bordering. To get the battery pack and wiring inside the body, I cut the rectangular vent part off of the top and used epoxy sculpt to fill in the gaps from the blade marks. It didn't come out as nicely as I would have liked it, so I painted it rust color to make it look like it was supposed to be crappy looking on purpose. I also drilled a hole through toe top to accommodate the light. The client said he wanted it to look "quirky" so I made the light and sign on the front crooked. I hollowed out the lens and attached the switch for the light on the inside of it while the top was off. I glued a piece of dowel rod to the switch, then the circular piece of fabric to the dowel rod and that is how you turn in the light. The rest is a paintjob and drybrushing to make it look muddy and rusty. ![]() |
