The Stump Wrestling issues were always my favorite from the TMNT Archie comics, so I've always wanted figures of its characters. In this issue Ace is much beefier than his other Playmates form, so the figure had to be totally different also. Initially I planned to use Hasbro WWF figures for all of this set because they have sort of squat proportions similar to the TMNT figures. Plus the WWF figures come with action features. However the WWF figures have no articulation below the waist, which creates a lot more work when trying to translate it to be compatible with the TMNT line. That and either the heat of baking Sculpey, or perhaps just the extra weight of Sculpey kind of took the snap out of Ultimate Warriors gorilla press. Anyway I think he turned out alright. The head is scratch sculpt. The body is Ultimate Warrior with a ton of feathers sculpted, and I believe the hands are from General Traag. I think going forward this set will not be using the WWF figures as base. One funny thing is, I've had this Ultimate Warrior figure since it was initially released, and this is not the first time this specific figure has been customized. When the movie The Crow came out (20 years ago? JEEZ) I painted it black and applied The Crow face pant, and in an artistic move attached the Playmates Ace Duck wings to his back. So it seems this figure was destined to become Ace Duck in one form or another.
