I bought a few of these McFarlane military figures years ago when they first came out for their weapons and gear and they've been sitting around forever. They don't have much, if any articulation, so they were never really that great for fodder bodies. I was finally inspired to use this guy for a custom Ghost figure from the Call of Duty series. I'm not a huge fan of the series, but I thought this was the perfect base! Originally, I was just going to paint the skull on his mask and call it day but then I looked over the figure more closely. I won't lie, McFarlane sculpts are always great, but their painting sometimes sucks. This was one of those times. In sooo many places, especially smaller areas like belt buckles and straps, it looked like someone just threw on some paint in the general area, didn't care what else it hit and said they were done. This annoyed me enough that I actually went back and repainted the whole figure for the most part: -Backpack straps were repainted in a new green and given a black wash. -His entire coat and head was given a fresh coat of flat black and then a dry brush of brown in areas to give it a dirty look. Skull was also painted on. -Pants were given a new dry brush of brown (all of those dirty brown areas are my work) -Shoes were given a heavy dry brush of brown to make them look extra dirty. -Finally, everything was sealed to protect the paint. An easy custom overall, I just gave a good sculpt a better paint job. ![]() |
