One of the oldest Predators alive (approx. 900 years), Maul is what they consider an Ancient Predator. As a young hunter he had a near fatal encounter with an Alien Queen. The ensuing battle was a long and brutal one, resulting in the loss of Maul's lower right arm, his left eye and upper left mandible, along with some pretty gnarly acid burn scars. However, Maul was victorious and wears his battle scars with pride, he also cherishes the Queens skull above all his other trophies. He outfitted his blade gauntlet to his left side and utilizes a vast array of hand held weapons. Maul is quite deadly in hand to hand combat, despite only having one arm. His Plasma Caster is also modified and packs about twice the firepower of a normal Plasma Caster....just in case.
The base figure started out as a NECA SDCC Gort Predator. He had a busted arm right out of the package so I decided to customize him. I started out by adding height to the figure by adding styrene to his waist and the bottoms of his feet, which increased his height by about 3/4 of an inch. I retained waist articulation by utilizing magnets. The head is a completely re-worked and re-sculpted Wolf Predator head. I sculpted in the extra crown ridges, shortened and repositioned the lower mandibles, added the mandible jewelry, dremmeled in larger and deeper scars, filled in the seam lines over the head and face with Apoxie Sculpt, transplanted the dreads from a Tracker Predator and gave it a full re-paint. His armor is a mixture of Jungle Hunter with additional bits and pieces and weapons from Tracker, City Hunter, Wolf, and some custom made pieces most noticeably the Plasma Caster. Because Maul is very old I wanted his armor to look really aged. I started with a base of Copper, followed by Bronze, and then added really heavy washes of Turquoise to give it a very aged look. Then I went back and did several dry brush coats of Aluminum on the armor for the dents and scratches followed by detailing in Copper and a light blackwash. His entire body had age spots added, along with a couple coats of dove grey lightly dry brushed on, followed by some light black wash, then detail work with dove grey and cotton white mostly on his head and chest. The acid burns on his head and arm were done with a dremmel and a torch, and then painted with multiple coats of green in varying colors. The entire figure was given several coats of Testors Dull Cote for the final seal, along with clear gloss over the eyes and mouth. The Alien Queen Skull is a McFarlane Alien Queen Head that was dremmeled and had patterns burned into it with a hot knife. It was painted with Krylon Fusion Black then dry brushed with several coats of grey, parchment, tan, and white, then sealed with Testors Dull Cote.
