Alright, well hope you guys are doing well. Got another request to make another Ben Affleck Batman custom, and while it's certainly a daunting task, I'm always looking to improve upon previous attempts. The customer wanted one "just like my last one, using the same base figure." Fair enough. I can do that, but I opted to sculpt the cowl this time rather than using an existing Batman head. I wanted to take on that challenge and also be able to add the texture to the cowl. The bare bones of it is that this suit requires a ridiculous amount of sculpted details. Mattel either got really lazy with the sculpt of their Dawn of Justice figure or they just collectively gave collectors the middle finger. I had just started on this one when the first pics of it were shown and it made me smile...not because I'm happy about them making a subpar figure, but because I knew mine would be better. The entire surface of this figure was sculpted over with a VERY VERY thin layer of Apoxie Sculpt. This hept it from getting unnecessarily bulky. Then it was a matter of putting in all the stitch lines. Just requires an eye for detail, a steady hand, and lots of patience. I also sculpted the gauntlet "spikes" separately and then grafted them into the gloves. The belt pouches were also individually sculpted and then attached to an underlying pleather belt strap. The pleather cape is very thin but weighty so it falls nicely. It is also wired. I added all the little details like the brass knuckles and bronze-ish steel toes on the boots. Overall, I really happy with the way it turned out. It's not 100% perfect, but it's far beyond what Mattel did. Up next, I've almost completed the desert trenchcoat Batman that we saw in the Comic Con trailer. He's made from an urban Legends Punisher, so he's old-school but bad to the bone! Thanks for looking! ![]() |

With today's digital sculpting, there's no excuse for them only adding the wrinkles with no stitching. As a perfect example, look at his companion figure, Superman...textured perfectly and intricately.
