I had the idea for this many years ago I wanted to make something related to 2001 since it's my favourite film of all time, I once crossed paths with this luke and since he had a removable helmet and there was a bit of likeness on the suit I thought he was perfect for the project, I had him around for some months and disassembled him completely, there was a lot of sculpting on this, and it was my first time working on this scale.

I modified the head first, trying to get all those Mark Hamill features out, and added what was missing, the ears and the hair. all of that wasn't very useful since the face is almost unseen on the helmet... but well, whatever hehe. I sealed all of the articulations and chopped everything that wasn't necessary on the suit. I already had the pose and the Monolith placement in mind at this time, I tried to change the pose of the right hand with heat but he could hold the new pose of the fingers just for some hours, since that didn't work I chopped the fingers and sculpted over, I sculpted most of the body, and then worked on the helmet, which needed many "layers" of work. between 3 or 5 maybe with lots of sanding in between also in the middle of this I had to put the plastic for the visor and keep on sculpting.

the base was finished many months before the figure, as always I made everything from wood including the volume of the base and then sculpted more detail over, all painted with acrylics and properly sealed.

I was very surprised by people's reactions when I had this on exhibition. it was just a few people who where interested on it (which I expected) but I didn't thought they would like it so much, also funny how most of them where more than twice my age, anyway. never bad to share a word with other Kubrick fans.
