His business ruined, Jonathan Cheval set about getting revenge upon the gangsters responsible by creating various monocles that could emit different types of energy beams. Longtime villain of Hawkman, the Monocle died at the hands of Kate Spencer, the most recent Manhunter. Fortunately, for Mr. Cheval he was returned to the land of the living with the advent of the New52 (or Ew52 s I like to call it). Unfortunately, for Mr. Cheval he was later disintegrated by Ultraman during Forever Evil.

While his exploits aren't extraordinary, the Monocle has a pretty distinct look. Or does he? I don't know, seems like he raied the Joker's closet. He's been done a couple times on here already, and I didn't really stray from the formulas that worked so well. So, he was made using a Gentleman Ghost figure (for the cape), and a cast I made from Uncle Sam's neck so I can do him again for myself eventually (this one was a commissioned piece). Besides that I used a Marvel Legends Ronan Wave Reed Richards head (thought the wrinkled forehead and thicker jowl gave him definitive look. Add a mustache, and a monocle made from InstaMorph and he was all done but for the painting. I also sanded down the glove lines on his hands, and reshaped the fingers so they didn't look quite so glove-like since other standard DCUC hands were just too big.

And so another old villain joins the ranks. At first I thought he somehow managed to avoid the age old practice of naming villains based on their powers, but a quick search reveals that 'cheval' is a large type of mirror that can be tilted, so if you think of him aiming his monocle by tilting, his last name ends up being pretty spot on. Just better disguised than most. And now you know. And knowing is half the battle. And the more you know the more you grow. And that's one to grow on. See?
