My husband decided to enter the competition so I decided to join in, so we could spend a few customising evening dates!I loved the dream beavers in the show but was really disappointed with the released figures, as was our son! Dave is his favourite so I thought I would surprise him. Dave is built around Dark Beaver. I used epoxy to round him out, make him jowly and fix the ears etc. I sliced off the original eyes with a Craft knife and added some putty to give them more of a 'Dave' look. I had some cake wire, (normally used for fondant flowers) which I inserted into the spine and face to add some whiskers and prickly spine hair. His claws were chiselled and sharpened with a knife. I also textured the putty with a knife to try and give a coarse fur effect, I think it's a bit haphazard though and old probably do better next time, maybe with a cake decorating tool. I also added putty spots round the face. I then layered up the colour using acrylics. His pink spots were trouble colour wise. Trying to mix a bright pink with the reds I had was going nowhere, and adding blue just made it too purple. Then I remembered a tub of magenta paint I had put in with the kids paint stuff which was just perfect. I also painted the silver wire up a taupe colour.
This figure has a few rough edges but I still like it way better than what the factory issued one's look like. Nice work and I really dig that Dave Beavers expression. Especially the eyes.
Cool custom! The eyes are a really important part of customizing and model painting and these came out great! I also think it's awesome that you joined in with your spouse and got to spend some time together being creative and supporting each other. Way to go!
