Okay, here comes a really obscure blast from the past, from the 1988 Superman Arcade Game by Taito, the player 2 skin!

In the game, player 2 was given the ability to also control Superman, but this one had a slightly inverted color scheme...his shirt and leggings were red as opposed to blue, his boots, cape, trunks, and chest symbol were light gray as opposed to red, and he had brown hair. I always thought that it was an interesting palate swap, and as soon as I got the parts to do it, I was going to make one.

To do this figure, I took a DC Universe Classics Starman (Ted Knight) and, using the boil and pop method, removed the head, arms, hands, and cape. Next, I used my razor knife to cut the existing belt off of him and separate the upper and lower body. Next, I gave the boots and trunks a full repaint with Testors Model Masters Dark Ghost Gray, followed by two generous coats of Flat Clear. While the gray paint was drying, I removed the belt, cape, hands, and head from a broken DC Universe Classics/Signature Super Powers 30th Anniversary Superman figure, and using the boil and pop method again, I attached the hands to the Starman arms, and then the arms to the body. Next, I commenced a repaint of the red belt loops on the Superman belt with the Testors Model Masters Dark Ghost Gray, again followed by two generous coats of Flat Clear. Once the gray paint and Flat Clear on the boots, trunks and belt loops was dry, I applied two small dabs of Testors Modeling Cement into the small seams at the bottom of the upper torso, and reassembled the body.

Once the glue dried, I set about on the next repaint, which was the neck and head. To do this, I mixed up a home brewed flesh tone paint that closely matched the skin of the DC Universe Classics/Signature Super Powers 30th Anniversary Superman figure's hands, and applied that to the neck and the skin on the face (I repainted the skin on the face, because even though the head was originally designed to match the hands by the manufacturer, I didn't think it matched enough to the home brewed flesh tone I had mixed up). Once the paint on the head's skin had dried, I gave the hair and eyebrows a full repaint in Testors Model Masters Burnt Sienna. While the hair and eyebrows dried, I gave the neck two generous coats of Flat Clear. Once the Flat Clear on the neck had dried, I used the boil and pop method to attach the head to the body, and then I gave the head two generous coats of Flat Clear.

Next, I started working on the cape, which was taken from a broken DC Universe Classics All-Star New 52 Superman figure. I commenced a full repaint of the cape with Testors Model Masters Dark Ghost Gray, followed by two generous coats of Flat Clear when the paint had fully dried. Once the Flat Clear on the cape was fully dry, I applied a large dab of Testors Modeling Cement into the notch on the figure's back and glued the cape in place.

Lastly, when the glue on the cape had fully set, and the cape was solidly held in place, I glued new symbols onto his chest and cape (both symbols were made by hand at a larger size, and then photocopied and shrunk to proper size...however, unlike previous hand drawn symbols I had done before, these are drawn with a slightly more massive size to more closely match the look of the "S" symbol of the Post Crisis era of Superman stories), and TA-DA...the Player 2 Skin of Superman from the 1988 Taito Superman Arcade Game!!!

Please let me know what you guys think of him, and as always, comments are appreciated.

Thanks, RaBoogie. I'm glad you liked it. I figured that this one small forgotten corner of Superman and video game history needed to be made in figure form. The paint job was easy...getting the parts put together properly, now THAT was the challenge.

Thanks, Redmist. I'm glad you liked it. I always picked him too when I played the Arcade game at our local pizzeria while Dad and I waited for a pie. Making this figure brought back some good memories for me.

I'm glad you liked him JayBlazeXGen. It was a rather difficult and time consuming piece to do, but I think it came out pretty well.

I'm glad you like him, Carnivac. I used to play as him as a kid back in the 80's on the actual arcade console unit, and I have always loved the design.
