Been on a Spider-Man villains crusade lately, and when I look at Toybiz' notable offerings, whilst they were decent to excellent at the time, nowadays they are too dated. Plus I hate the 45 degree hips and articulated finger and toes. It's nice to have the latter, but they look ugly nowadays. So I got the urge to do them justice and give them a better more classic look and fit them in seamlessly to Hasbro's Legends. This was a somewhat tough or annoying one due to the lines. But they weren't that bad. It was the cape that just didn't want to glue down that made it hard. Figure is Hydra Soldier, originally for paint rub purposes. I wanted to keep the dark green of the factory plastic and half-arse the prep work. But I felt the black lines would make it look "too" dark. And so I went all out sanding and prepping so I could repaint a lighter green. All along I was disatisfied, thinking the green was too bright, and not accurate to the darker green I wanted. But I persevered and now that it is 100% - I'm very glad I did. It looks pretty fine with this green, as I was right in my assumption the black lines would give the optical effect of making it look darker. I drew them on with a black fine liner pen. The forearms are the Toybiz Mysterio, cut the hands off completely, drilled holes in to accommodate the Spider-Man wall-crawling hands for that expressive look. The boots are also from the older Mysterio, I LOVED the look of them from Toybiz. I glued them onto the Hydra soldier's lower legs (which had to be sanded down, A LOT!), so no boot swivel, but no big deal. I cut out the ankle joint disc from the Hydra figure, sanded it to fit in the ankle articulation and run the pin through it. The feet are the Hydra Soldiers to maintain the Hasbro aesthetic and ankle rocker articulation. These were all then painted a glorious gold from Citadel paints. The fish-bowl head is an old ping-pong ball we've had in our possession for as long as I can remember. At least 20 years since I was a young kid. It was sitting in a miscellaneous box, doing nothing, until I put it to service. I sprayed it with a pearlescent white. I again used my tried and true method of a top coat of Tamiya semi gloss clear, for that "factory shine". The cape is also Toybiz Mysterio, cut to fit. Gluing the cape on was hard since it didn't want to stay down. I fully expect it to peel off one day.... sigh. The smoke was a load of padding I took from an old sofa from our school about 7 years ago haha. It had a gaping hole in there and so I put it to good use. Thanks for looking!
